Federal Hill House has Child and Family Development offering a playgroup program for families with young children. Providence Talks is a free early intervention program that seeks to develop young children's vocabulary and language skills in low-income households ages birth to 3. Home visitors provide weekly educational activities for families in either individual or group settings. Both home visiting and playgroup models provide free books each week. Providence Talks, Early Learning Center-Federal Hill House's Early Learning Center serves children 6 weeks to 5 years old. There are four classrooms: Infant (6 weeks to 18 months). Toddler (18 months- 3 years), Pre-School(3-5 years old) and three playgrounds. We have a 3 star rating from BrightStars and are recognized for our innovative curriculum tailored to meet the needs of young children. FHH accepts private pay and Department of Human Services (DHS) subsidies. The ELC participates in the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) as well to provide meals and nourishment to enrolled children. The hours for the Early Learning Center are Monday-Friday, 7:00am to 5:00pm. Program coordinator- Christina email [email protected] . Providence Talks' parent educators facilitate weekly playgroups across Providence that introduce, model, and practice strategies and that help increase parent-child interaction. We provide free books each week and utilize LENA technology to track progress and provide feedback for parents and caregivers. Playgroups meet at Federal Hill House campuses and at multiple community libraries and other community settings. School Age Child Care- Federal Hill House's School Age Program serves children from Kindergarten 12 years old. We provide snacks, help with the homework, play outside, and offer a variety of youth development opportunities. Our staff reflect the community we serve and are excellent role models. Children find a positive peer group and a home away from home in our school age child care program.After School- located in 35 Swiss St. in Providence, our after school program engages children in enrichment activities, homework assistance, arts and crafts and outdoor play. We provide transportation to the schools Asa Messer, William D'Abate and George J. West Elementary as well as West Broadway and Nathanael Greene Middle School. We take walk-ins and School Bus transportation. Our hours of operation start at 2:30pm until 5:45pm. We offer full time care during School Vacations. Our program takes DHS childcare subsidy as a form of payment, as well as CCAP for Providers. We also accept payments from agrencies such as DCYF. For enrollment contact Susana Ortega at (401)-421-4722 ext. 218, or email [email protected]. 21 Century Community Center Learning After School- Federal Hill House is also pleased to lead after school programs for Harry Kizirian Elementary School and Asa Messer Elementary School in Providence in partnership with the Rhode Island Department of Education. The programs aim to reduce chronic absenteeism by providing families after school care options that focus on students' socio-emotional needs. This includes a light snack, arts and crafts, outdoor play, and activities encouraging teamwork, creativity, and leadership. This program is free for students who qualify. Summer Camp, Service Learning and Work-Based Learning- our teen programs engage young people ages 14 to 24 with service learning, job training, internships, and educational workshops that help prepare them for the future. Federal Hill House employs up to 80 young people ages 12 to 24 during the summer months through the City of Providence's Summer Jobs Program and the State's Real Skills for RI Youth. Youth ages 14 and 15 participate in a six-week Service Learning Program, "ACT" (Achieving Change Together). They identify issues of importance, learn about why and how they exist, and plan ways to address those issues. Young people ages 16 to 24 are placed in internships within Federal Hill House and at partner agencies throughout our community. They learn important hard and soft skills and valuable lessons in workplace success. Interns take part in weekly educational workshops on topics such as workplace communication, financial literacy, and connecting education and careers. A dedicated coach-mentor supports on the job success through frequent visits to job sites. During the fall of 2021, FHH launched a Work-Based Learning Program that trains and places young people ages 18-24 in work-based learning settings in child care and youth development programs. During summer 2022, most of our teens in the program interned here at at one of our FHH campuses. A few students also worked at other organizations throughout Providence such as, John Hope Settlement House, Soulita and Fab Living Realty.
