Ocean State Center for Independent Living

The Ocean State Center for Independent Living works to improve the life experience for people with disability by promoting self-direction and integration into the community, and provides a wide range of independent living services to help individuals meet these goals. The Ocean State Center for Independent Living is a non-residential, consumer-driven, community-based, cross-disability, non-profit organization. OSCIL was established in 1988 to provide a range of independent living services to enhance, through self-direction, the quality of life for persons with disability and to promote integration into the community. OSCIL is governed by an active Board of Directors comprised largely of persons having disabilities, who play a major role in setting policy and programming. The Ocean State Center for Independent Living’s mission is to provide a range of Independent Living Services to enhance, through self-direction, the quality of life of persons with disability and to promote integration into the community. They also provide with Person Centered Options Counseling. They provide advocacy, peer support, independent living skills training, nursing home transition program and transition youth program. Information and referral for individuals who have a disability in order to enable them to achieve their fullest level of independence. Deaf services. Fosters community awareness and education through outreach programs. One to one peer support for visually impaired, deaf and amputees.
