Financial Literacy Training | Comprehensive Community Action Program
In December of 1965, Cranston Community Action Program was incorporated. At that time CCAP served Cranston, Coventry, Scituate and Foster. As many of our programs grew to include cities and towns outside that catchment area, they decided to change their name. In September of 1994 we officially became Comprehensive Community Action, but still CCAP. CCAP is one of Rhode Island's largest organizations dedicated solely to fighting the war on poverty. Their professional staff provides a wide spectrum of services designed to help those in immediate need and empower anyone desiring to become more self-sufficient. They want to empower all people and communities, challenged by poverty as well as social and cultural barriers, through advocacy, education, and access to high quality health and human services. Services they provide include: family health services (medical, dental, behavioral health and WIC) , family development (case management and care coordination), Child Development (Head Start and child care for children birth to 5 years old), youth education and job training (work readiness and job placement for youth 14-24), Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA; income-eligible individuals can get help filing their taxes); and social service programs (fuel and rental assistance, weatherization and LeadSafe, financial education, affordable housing, food bank and more).

Comprehensive Community Action Program
CCAP is one of Rhode Island's largest organizations dedicated solely to fighting the war on poverty. Their professional staff provides a wide spectrum of services designed to help those in immediate need and empower anyone desiring to become more self-sufficient. Food, Housing, Fuel Assistance, & Weatherization From time to time everyone needs a helping hand. CCAP offers a full range of services to help individuals and families keep a warm roof over their heads and food on the table. CCAP offers a full range of behavioral health counseling services to help individuals and families develop healthy ways of coping with adversity and resolve problems that have created obstacles to leading full lives. Their staff of caring, experienced Licensed Independent Social Workers and Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselors provide individual, couples, family and group therapy. The CCAP Food Bank provides nutritious food and support services to people in need with compassion, dignity and respect. We are a Choice Food Bank. Their Choice Food Bank enables people to “shop” through a food selection process, much like they would in a grocery store, rather than receiving pre-packaged bags. The Choice Bank creates a dignified experience that encourages the selection of healthy foods. No appointments are necessary during regular hours – they serve on a “first come first served basis” If you are a new client, they ask that you identify yourselves so they can start your client paperwork. New clients to CCAP’s Food Bank start with an intake interview that determines household size and dietary needs along with other CCAP services they may need such as health care or heating assistance.
