Eligibility

RIDE- People who have a disability that prevents them from using MBTA buses, subways, or trolleys all or some of the time are eligible for The RIDE. People who are blind or have low vision, as well as an accompanying guide, ride all MBTA services for free with a Blind Access CharlieCard. Seniors, people with disabilities, middle/high school students, and young adults (18-25) enrolled in a GED or job training program are eligible for reduced fare.

Application process

RIDE account- Must have in person interview at 1000 Massachusetts Avenue, 2nd Floor, Boston, to determine eligibility. Schedule trips 1-7 days in advance; add funds to account online, over the phone, in person, or by mail. CharlieCard/CharlieTicket (Bus, Subway, Commuter Rail, Ferry)- purchase online, at fare vending machines (located at all subway stops and Lynn and Worchester/Union Commuter Rail stations), onboard, or certain retail stores. Buses and Commuter rail will also accept payment in cash. mTicket- (Commuter Rail, Ferry)-purchase on the mTicket app, online, at fare vending machines (located at subway stops and Lynn and Worchester/Union Commuter Rail stations), onboard, or certain retail stores.
