Butler Hospital is the state's only non-profit, free-standing psychiatric hospital providing adults, seniors and adolescents specialized assessment and treatment for all major psychiatric illnesses and substance abuse. Services include:
  • Addiction & Rehabilitation: alcohol & drub addiction, opioid addiction & recovery stabilization
  • Behavioral health - mood & anxiety disorders/bipolar and depression; obsessive-compulsive & anxiety disorders; and psychotic disorders/schizophrenia, paranoia & psychosis
  • Neurology - memory disorders: Alzheimer's disease, dementia and memory loss; movement disorders: Parkinson's disease, Huntington's and Tardive Dyskinesia.
  • Emergency Assessment & Care for Behavioral Health 24/7
Butler is the major affiliated teaching hospital for psychiatry and behavioral health of The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University. It is the flagship hospital for its Department of Psychiatry and Human Behavior, which has been recognized by its peers as one of the top ten in the US. Butler is the major training site and the base hospital for the Brown University General Residency in Psychiatry. Many physicians and psychologists at Butler are also part of the Brown Institute for Brain Science and participate in exciting clinical research initiatives with this world-renowned center for neuroscience. A national leader in the development of acute psychiatric and substance abuse treatment, Butler is involved in a variety of research efforts which has earned it a national reputation as a major teaching and research facility, including: -Major depression. -Obsessive compulsive disorder. -Alzheimer's disease and other memory disorders. -Parkinson's disease, anxiety. -Substance abuse and family violence. -Smoking cessation. -Perinatal mood disorders. Butler Hospital is a part of Care New England Health System that employs approximately 900 full-time and part-time clinical and non-clinical staff. More than 75 volunteers assist the staff in nearly all areas of the hospital. The Board of Directors represents a cross-section of the business community.
