Description
The Office of the Health Insurance Commissioner is responsible for: Guarding the solvency of health insurers; Protecting the interests of consumers; Encouraging policies and developments that improve the quality and efficiency of health care service delivery and outcomes; and Viewing the health care system as a comprehensive entity and encourage and direct insurers towards policies that advance the welfare of the public through overall efficiency, improved health care quality, and appropriate access.

OHIC shall guard the solvency of health insurers, protect the interests of consumers, encourage fair treatment of health care providers, encourage policies and developments that improve the quality and efficiency of health care services, and encourage and direct insurers towards policies that advance the welfare of the public. Services: - Health Insurance complaints for large and small group insurance only. - Complaints by consumers and providers must be in writing - complaint form can be found on website. - We DO NOT handle Medicare information that is Dept of Elderly Affairs. - We DO NOT handle the State Employees Health Insurance Complaints that is the Dept of Administration. - We DO NOT handle local municipal self insured products. ie: Teachers, police, firefighters those are self insured and we do not have jurisdiction. - We DO NOT handle Ritecare or Riteshare that is the RI Dept of Human Service. * Before contacting OHIC, contact your Health Insurance Company first to solve any issues. If unable to solve the problem, fill out a complaint form against the insurance company and submit it to OHIC.
