Description

Provides nutritious home-delivered meals and congregate meals in a social setting for elderly (60+) and for handicapped persons under 60. Programs offered are: Home Delivered Program - complete and nutritious, fully-prepared meals are home-delivered to homebound older adults. Meals are grant and donor funded, private pay (5 meals weekly for less than $50) and Medicaid HCBS-LTSS funded. Drivers provide a friendly visit, doing a daily well-being check. Supporting home-delivery clients who depend on their pets for companionship, Meals on Wheels provides pet food and supplies. They are also eligible for the Senior Wish Initiative, providing gift packages of seasonal essentials, everyday necessities and other items during the winter holidays. Participants can also request deliveries of shelf-stable food items through their Mobile Market which is available weekdays 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM. Call 401-351-6700 x 108. Capital City Cafes - seniors 60+ or people living with disabilities and/or who live in a housing facility where a meal program is not in operation can enjoy socialized dining with their peers at one of the program lunches held Monday - Friday at locations throughout the City of Providence. In addition to the mal, clients are provided with health education from guest speakers covering issues relevant to an older adult's health needs. Transportation is available to the closest lunch site through the RIDE Program at 1-800-479-6902 or LogistiCare 1-855-330-9131. To participate in the program you have to register in advance. Capital City Cafes also require a reservation at least 24 hours in advance of the scheduled meal time. Designated by the Rhode Island Department of Elderly Affairs as the regional case management agency responsible in Providence for elderly abuse protective services, home and community care, home delivered meals assessments and social services.
