Description
Dexter Manor I, is a 10-story elderly/disabled high-rise building located on the edge of the city’s Downtown neighborhood. In 1984 a new wing was added to the building containing an additional 91 units of elderly/disabled housing and the PHA’s Administrative Offices. Although the newer wing is technically a separate development named Dexter Manor II, the two are usually referred to collectively as Dexter Manor.

Founded in 1939, the Providence Housing Authority is committed to developing and maintaining decent, safe and sanitary housing to address the economic and social needs of Providence residents. Today the PHA provides affordable housing to more than 12,000 residents in the City of Providence. The PHA is committed to high standards of public accountability and continuous improvement through management excellence, professional development and customer satisfaction. The PHA administers 2,601 public housing units that house 5,613 residents. These units are designated as elderly/disabled, family, and scattered sites developments. It oversees the administration of about 2,700 Section 8 vouchers that allow low-income families to rent in the private market. The PHA offers the following Adult Education Programs at its main Resident Services Department facility – the Thomas J. The ETC serves as the hub for job training programs provided by our service partners.
