The mission of the Woonasquatucket River Watershed Council is to encourage, support and promote the restoration and preservation of the Woonasquatucket River Watershed as an environmental, recreational, cultural, and economic asset of the State of Rhode Island.
The Watershed Council runs environmental programs all summer long including the "Adopt-a-Spot" Program,in which volunteers claim a spot along the Bike Path and commit to cleaning it once a week, and Water Quality Monitoring in partnership with the URI Watershed Watch Program, volunteers take measurements of dissolved oxygen, water temperature, weather, salinity, bacteria, and nutrients in 3 locations in Providence and North Providence.
