Description
-Responsible for prosecution of all felony criminal cases and misdemeanor appeals, as well as prosecution of misdemeanor cases brought by state law enforcement agencies. -Represents all agencies, departments and commissions in litigation and initiates legal action where necessary to protect the interests of Rhode Island citizens. -Charged with operating and maintaining the Bureau of Criminal Identification, which is the central repository for all criminal records in the State. -Callers can call the general info line to reach all units, including the Consumer Protection Unit, Elder Abuse Prosecution Unit, and Veteran's Issues. - Victim Services Unit provides an array of services to felony crime victims and their families and informs victims of their rights as guaranteed under the Rhode Island Constitution and the Victim's Bill of Rights. Advocates are assigned to victims and their families to provide guidance and support through the criminal justice process. Unit provides referrals to other victim-service provider agencies and support groups that can further assist victims with financial, legal, medical and emotional problems resulting from the crime. Unit advocates also assist prosecutors with all victim-related matters.
