However, because it is staffed by volunteers, anyone needing assistance is asked to call the Social Services department to schedule a time to pick up food. Appointments are made for Wednesday mornings beginning at 9 am or Wednesday afternoons. Emergency situations will open the food bank as needed. The annual Rhode Island KIDS COUNT Factbook provides a detailed community by community picture of the condition of children in the State. Rhode Island KIDS COUNT also publishes a quarterly Issue Brief series that provides additional data and policy analysis on children's issues. Rhode Island KIDS COUNT contributes to public policy development by leading and participating in government committees, providing information and data based testimony to policy makers and convening public policy forums.

Portsmouth Animal Control is responsible for enforcing all state laws and town ordinances involving domesticated animals in the Town of Portsmouth. It is also responsible for the pick up of stray animals and trying to locate their owners. When a domestic animal doesn't have a town license or other identification the animal is brought to the Potter Shelter in Middletown until the owner claims it. The animal will only be released after the owner licenses the animal.

During this crucial stage of a child’s growth and development, the Seven Hills EI professionals work with families as a team to help them help their children where they learn best: at home and in community settings. Seven Hills EI program partners each family with a Service Coordinator who works with a team to assess the child’s development based on medical history, observation of the child performing a daily routine, and learning about the child’s likes, dislikes, successes, and difficulties. If the child is eligible for EI, the team will work with the family to develop an Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP), to develop priorities, goals and outcomes. The Seven Hills professionals make it as convenient as possible for families to schedule their EI visits in the child’s natural environment—at home, in a child care setting, or during a community activity. The family’s multidisciplinary EI team may include educators, therapists, social workers, and nutritionists. Parent Consultants (PCs)—parents whose children have been through the EI program—are also available to share resources, offer support, and facilitate networking.
