Many programs focus on impoverished communities and are structured to prevent the outflow of community dollars and to retain and recycle income within the community by investing in the development of local institutions and businesses and thereby creating local jobs, sustaining local services and building a healthier local economy. The Autism Project is committed to providing support to families raising children with special health care needs. Caring for a child or youth with ASD, a developmental disability, or who is medically fragile can be stressful and overwhelming at times. Having the ability to take a brief break from responsibilities is important. The Respite Program gives parents or guardians a break from caregiving to recharge.

A federally licensed non-profit organization dedicated to serving the Rhode Island community with blood and blood components. The Center has an active tissue typing laboratory which supports bone marrow transplantation and parentage testing. The Rhode Island Blood Center is a donor center for the National Marrow Donor Program and has an active Pheresis Program.

Some arts and crafts clubs may also provide space for activities, provide access to discounts on materials and tools, sponsor exhibits or sales of art or craft pieces created by members, publish a newsletter or provide access to a library of resources about the subject. Adult day program for the elderly and disabled that offers a six week health education program called Take Control of Your Health. Nutritional meal provided at noon and two daily snacks, senior advocacy program, daily fitness program, leisure activities, RIDE program for transportation, and a social worker on staff. Individuals with diabetes, high blood pressure, depression, memory loss are especially encouraged to attend the Center because their program is specifically designed for these health conditions.

A comprehensive program focused on improving the quality of life for elders and their families by helping to identify the services that can assist elders maintain an independent lifestyle in their own home. Elder Services: Elder case management, homemaker & home health aide, information and referral for elders and caregivers, elder abuse and protective services.
