The Supplemental Security Income (SSI) program provides monthly payments to adults and children with a disability or blindness and who have income and resources below specified amounts. SSI payments can also be made to people 65 and older without disabilities who meet the financial limits. People who have worked long enough may also qualify to receive Social Security disability or retirement benefits as well as SSI.

Kids Cafe is a program of Feeding America, the national network of food banks, and it is the nation's largest meal program exclusively for needy children. The Food Bank’s Kids Cafe serves healthy meals to children at risk of hunger at after school programs in local community centers. Students come directly from school and receive a delicious dinner to give them energy to focus, concentrate, and play during the rest of their day until it’s time for the to go home in the evening. They also learn about nutrition and making healthy choices when they eat. For many of the children, Kids Cafe provides their only meal for the evening.

The 9 Yards program provides long term, comprehensive services to small groups of individuals getting out of prison. The program provides a variety of classes and support in prison, followed by transitional housing, case management, and employment coaching. The program has been proven to reduce recidivism by more than 50%. Reentry Case Management program works with participants up to six months prior to release from prison. OpenDoors is contracted through the Rhode Island Department of Corrections (DOC) to provide discharge plans to inmates in the Men's Minimum Security Facility at the DOC. This is done in both individual and group formats in an attempt to reach as many as possible of the over 1,200 discharges per year from that facility. Individual 14-point plans addressing different life-areas are established for clients with longer sentences, while comprehensive written information on available services is provided to group participants who typically have short sentences. All clients are encouraged to follow up with the resource center. Walk-in resource center, accepts drop-in visits from any formerly incarcerated person. We maintain an up-to-date and comprehensive file of resources in major life areas such as housing, employment, education, medical, mental health, substance abuse, and transportation. Clients can use our telephone or computer lab to communicate with employers, family members, and probation or parole officers. Our resource center has a full schedule of programming, ranging from job readiness to financial literacy to support groups. We can also serve as a temporary address. FHR is guided by its vision of being a national leader for behavioral healthcare, program innovation, and workforce development. It continually seeks new ways to actualize this vision. FHR continues to develop increasingly progressive models of care, with a focus on recovery, for individuals with serious and persistent mental illness. Their organization is a front-runner in behavioral health care, working with communities to accept and support residential programs, substance abuse programs, and fully-integrative programs, such as Assertive Community Treatment. The cornerstone of such work is the organization’s deep and longstanding commitment to the principles of recovery and the inclusion of peers in the recovery process. Clearly evident in its mission, FHR and its staff believe that all persons living with mental illness can and do recover, and with access to supports and resources can and do lead self-determined, independent, and fulfilling lives as contributing members of the community.

The Division of Veterans Affairs maintains a dignified and solemn military cemetery on 265 acres in Exeter, Rhode Island. Committals are conducted with military honors and memorial services are provided at the facility as well. The grounds of the cemetery are beautifully maintained and include memorials dedicated to veterans of specific wars and conflicts, including the recently dedicated Korean War Memorial. The facility includes a Memorial Chapel/Committal Building that is available for a service not longer than 10 minutes on the day of burial.

The DaVinci Center has contracted with the Social Security Administration to assist beneficiaries of SSI and SSDI residing in Rhode Island to obtain gainful paid employment. SSI and SSDI recipients have disabilities that make it difficult for them to obtain employment. Under the Ticket to Work Program, The DaVinci Center is prepared to offer these recipients whatever services they require that will enable them to find suitable paid jobs. These services include a comprehensive assessment; drafting of resumes and cover letters; job readiness skills; job search activities and job retention services.
