The Supplemental Security Income (SSI) program provides monthly payments to adults and children with a disability or blindness and who have income and resources below specified amounts. SSI payments can also be made to people 65 and older without disabilities who meet the financial limits. People who have worked long enough may also qualify to receive Social Security disability or retirement benefits as well as SSI.

For adolescent girls, 13-17. Provides individual, group and family counseling in a long-term residential treatment program for women in recovery from chemical dependency. Daily living in a family atmosphere develops a sense of normalcy and belonging in a non-threatening, supportive, educative and chemically free environment. The program places a strong emphasis on the Twelve Step Program of Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous. Assertiveness training as well as physical and recreational activities are designed to improve health and appearance. Special emphasis is placed on helping each woman develop positive feelings of self-worth that will support the ultimate goal of sobriety. A relapse prevention specialist provides residential and outpatient relapse prevention services. Eastman House also offers a continuing after care program. Our reception area has an interactive children’s area, the treatment rooms are private and spacious allowing for parent and siblings to be present if you choose. We hold monthly cavity free contests and have a treasure box filled with toys for the children to select. Video entertainment is available for our young patients in all rooms. Richmond Animal Control Division handles approximately 75 calls-for-service per month, which often vary from noise complaints to animal "at large" violations, to animal bite complaints, and several other enforcement related duties. Complaints and calls concerning domesticated animals are received at Richmond Police Department, which serves as dispatch for Animal Control. Non-emergency calls received after-hours are referred to the next Animal Control Officer to return to duty. The Animal Control Division also provides temporary shelter, feeding, care and medical treatment for impounded animals, and routinely facilitated adoptions to place abandoned, neglected, or unwanted animals in the care of willing and capable pet owners who are eager to provide the pet a safe and nurturing home environment.

The Pets in Need Veterinary Clinic provides medical and surgical services for pets owned by need-based elderly, disabled and low income citizens of Rhode Island. The mission of the RISPCA is to protect and advocate for the rights and welfare of animals through legal, educational, legislative and investigative means.

Programs within the formal criminal justice system that provide facilities for the detention of people who have been charged with a crime and are awaiting trial, and/or the confinement, treatment, employment, training and discipline of people who have been sentenced to imprisonment after conviction for a criminal offense.

Support and advocacy for the blind. Monthly meetings focus mainly on advocacy activities such as legislative and public policy development and public education. However, peer support for individuals is available and provided as needed. Purpose of the group is to foster positive attitudes towards blindness for both the blind and sighted communities. Chapters The Greater Providence Chapter of the NFB of RI meets on the second Saturday of each month, except for the months of July and October from 10:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and they are preceded by a social half hour at 10 Office Parkway, in East Providence.
