Free, confidential, one-to-one literacy tutoring in reading, writing and English to East Bay adults. We teach basic literacy skills, GED skills, and ESL (English as a Second Language) skills. Volunteers test and tutor students, serve on our board, maintain our mailing lists, man our computer lab and other tasks.

Defenders works with pet owners that need to find homes for their companion animals. Legal Assistance: Defenders of Animals has assisted individuals with legal research and assistance in obtaining an attorney. Rewards: Defenders offers rewards up to $2000 for information leading to the apprehension, conviction and sentencing of the person(s) guilty of crimes of cruelty. Advocacy: Defenders of Animals will advocate on behalf of stray, abandoned animals and wildlife and pet owners when it is appropriate.

The Rhode Island Center for Justice is a non-profit public interest law center that partners with community groups to strengthen existing advocacy and service provision with legal representation and strategy. Our legal practice areas⁠—including housing, immigration, workers’ rights, criminal justice, education, and utility shutoffs⁠—reflect the most pressing needs of low-income people in our state. At the core of our model is a partnership with Roger Williams University School of Law, which includes a post-graduate fellowship program, collaboration with pro bono and experiential education, and a joint commitment to building the next generation of public interest attorneys in Rhode Island. The Center brings together new lawyers, supervising legal staff, community groups, mentoring attorneys, and law students to make legal protection a reality where need is greatest.

This program offers the caregivers to navigate everyday stresses involved in caring for a loved one. These services often are sought during transitional situations, crisis situations and in situations where the caregiver needs education and support to take better care of themselves. They offer information, resources, and strategies specific to caring for someone who may have a disability or other health concerns related to aging.

Provides work clothing at no cost to low-income men and women who are completing job training and education programs, and seeking employment.
