The Johnston Police Department established a new Domestic Violence Law Enforcement Advocate. Dan Ormond, Domestic Violence Advocate can assist with any domestic violence related questions. Dan is here on a part-time basis and is shared with the Cranston Police Department.

Scalabrini Villa has designated the Country Unit as a secured Memory Care Unit. This unit specializes in the care of residents with memory loss and dementia related diagnoses. This Special Care Unit has been developed with a team of professionals who are specialists in the disease process and its’ management. All staff involved in the Memory Care unit receive extensive training giving them the background to develop the therapeutic techniques needed to apply to the various behaviors residents demonstrate, and to understand the traumatic impact of dementia on family caregivers. This unit offers two levels of activity programs daily; evening activities, a newly developed sensory room and an outdoor herbal garden/planters. The goal of the Country Unit is to enhance the independence, safety and dignity of the participants despite their progressive cognitive and functional losses.
