Adult Basic Education is offered in English and is designed for students who need to improve their basic academic skills in order to enter into the National External Diploma Program, prepare for the GED, or enroll in an occupational skills training program. The Johnston Animal Control Division is housed within the Johnston Police Department's Special Services Bureau. The Town of Johnston does not maintain a local, full-time, Animal Shelter however it shares the City of North Providence's facility located at 900 Smithfield Rd., North Providence, RI (719-1516). The Johnston Police Department's ACO handles all issues regarding only Domesticated Animals. All wild Animal calls must be sent to the RI Department of Environmental Management and all rodent calls must be made to your private rodent removal company. If you suspect a domesticated and/or wild animal may be rabid, you may contact the Johnston Police Department to assess the potential public safety concern.

Children’s Personal Assistance Services and Support (PASS): consumer-directed program designed to support children with special health care needs. PASS provides families with the opportunity to take the lead role in directing the services received by their child. The family-centered approach empowers families and individuals to foster independence, support family care giving and decision making, respect family choices and values, and build on individual strengths. Respite Program: a consumer-driven program designed to enhance the quality of life for children with special needs and their families. The provision of Respite enables families to receive support in the delivery of care for their children. Children’s Home-Based Therapeutic Services (HBTS): clinically directed, specialized health services that are designed to meet the individual needs of children diagnosed with moderate to severe physical, developmental, behavioral or emotional conditions. Addresses behavioral concerns and the development of functional, social and communication skills. The HBTS Team is comprised of the parent(s), a clinical supervisor, a home based therapist, a family service coordinator, and when indicated specialty (treatment consultants, speech therapy, physical therapy, and/or occupational therapy). Together, the HBTS Team develops an individualized treatment plan with measurable goals and objectives. Additionally, clinical support and training is provided on a continuous basis to the home based therapist and family.

Maternal Child Home Visiting provides child development, health and social services to newborns and their families as well as families with young children. Healthy Families America (HFA) is designed to help parents with understanding and caring for their infant’s needs, building strong parent child connections, breastfeeding and feeding support, and helping children learn and grow to reach their potential. Parents as Teachers (PAT) is a home based program that supports parents by teaching them the skills they need to teach their children and enhance their development and also supports families with monthly community activities and family events. Provides individual and group counseling for victims of sexual assault and their families. Offers 24-hour hotline, information, advocacy, support, legal assistance and crisis counseling. trained counselors/advocates available to meet victims at hospital, police station and court. Assault Prevention Program offers personal safety programs to students in preschool through college. Day One serves victims of sexual assault, domestic violence and other violent crimes. Services include the 24-hour Victims of Crime Helpline; crisis intervention, individual and group counseling for children and adults, advocacy (including legal advocacy) for victims and their families. Also, the Sexual Assault Response Team (SART), the RI Children's Advocacy Center, prevention education and a new Family Foster Care Treatment Program for sexually abused children in foster care and their foster families.

Offers support to Medicaid eligible Rhode Island residents who are interested in returning to the community after a nursing home stay. The program provides information and support to help the person evaluate their needs and develop a plan of care.

RITAP is a collaborative effort of the Rhode Island Department of Education, Office of Special Populations and Rhode Island College. It provides practitioners, parents, and policymakers the knowledge and resources necessary to increase their capacity to provide comprehensive and coordinated services to all children including those with disabilities that result in improved educational performance and enhanced life-long outcomes. RITAP at Rhode Island College is supported by the RI Department of Education Office for Diverse Learners.
