SMP not only protects seniors, it also helps to preserve the integrity of the Medicare and Medicaid programs. Senior Medicare Patrol staff and volunteers work with beneficiaries to: -Review their Medicare Summary Notices for accuracy -Protect their identity -Identify and report errors on their health care bills -Identify deceptive health care practices, such as illegal marketing, providing unnecessary or inappropriate services, and charging for services that were not provided -SMP also conducts informational sessions for seniors about avoiding Medicare and Medicaid scams.
