The East Bay Senior Medicare Patrol (SMP) Program helps Medicare and Medicaid beneficiaries prevent, detect, and report health care fraud. SMP not only protects seniors, it also helps to preserve the integrity of the Medicare and Medicaid programs. Senior Medicare Patrol staff and volunteers work with beneficiaries to: -Review their Medicare Summary Notices for accuracy -Protect their identity -Identify and report errors on their health care bills -Identify deceptive health care practices, such as illegal marketing, providing unnecessary or inappropriate services, and charging for services that were not provided -SMP also conducts informational sessions for seniors about avoiding Medicare and Medicaid scams.

Focusing on issues that are specific to BPD, it is hosted in a community setting and led by trained group leaders who are usually family members of relatives with BPD.
