Provides comprehensive rehabilitation services to persons, 18 - 100, who are blind or severely visually impaired, through a center-based program, regional satellites, or community services. Included are daily living skills training, orientation and mobility, counseling, diabetic program, summer camp, low vision services, workshop training and employment, a closed circuit radio information service, volunteer services, speakers bureau, tapes, Braille material, aids and appliances. Provides free ESL, ABE, Pre-GED, and GED classes. The Center is an official GED testing site. Testing fee applies. Another program offered is the External Diploma Program, a competency based program. In addition, we offer vocational training programs and adult education courses.

Speech therapists work with patients to correct speech or swallowing disorders and help restore language and communication skills. Many of our patients come to us after a brain injury, neuromuscular diseases, stroke, or other injury or illness. Based on each patient's unique needs and goals, the speech pathologist will develop a program with exercises and activities to strengthen muscles, sharpen speech, and improve reading, recall, and listening skills. Based on each patient's unique needs, the speech therapist will develop a program with the exercises and activities to meet patient goals. Our speech therapists also work with cognitive communication impairments such as attention, memory, and problem-solving disorders. Our speech therapists help patients: Improve clarity of speech. Improve reading, communication, and language skills. Understand safe swallowing strategies. Participate in LSVT LOUD treatment for individuals with Parkinson’s disease.

The UCP Rhode Island Children & Family Services program provides services to children with disabilities and their families under Rhode Island�s Home Based Therapeutic Services Program (HBTS). Medicaid eligible children (up to age 21) are provided comprehensive periodic evaluations to supplement the treatment of various medical conditions. Works with families to develop service plans for their children and assists the families to secure HBTS funding. Once a plan is approved, UCPRI provides case management and services, therapies, and training for the child and family. The object is to apply individualized services that permit the child to live at home and take an active part in school and community. UCPRI�s services may help relieve some of the financial strains that make raising a child with disabilities so stressful to both the family and child. Other Children & Family Services:

• CAP (Community Activities Project) provides financial support enabling children with disabilities to participate in community and recreational activities.

Provides information, referral and advocacy to families with children who have special needs. UCPRI will assist families in identifying their needs (home health care, learning, recreation) and work with them to secure funding. Adult Education: UCP Rhode Island�s Adult Education Community Classrooms meet throughout RI. Instruction is individualized, based on the personal learning goals of each student. Most classes meet for 3 hours a week for 12 weeks. Women & Infants' Breast Health Center is a specialized resource for patients and a consultative service to physicians offering comfortable facilities, advanced technology, specialized expertise, prompt evaluation, and a full spectrum of contemporary treatment options. The Breast Health Center has a perfected model program for total breast care, developed all of the necessary educational and support systems and assembled a multidisciplinary team of women's health specialists. The Breast Health Center offers services including Mammography, Breast MRI, Breast Core Biopsy, Sentinal Node Biopsy, Treating Breast Cancer, Breast Self-Examination Education, LOCalizer, Genetics and Prevention Program, Support Groups, and a Rehabilitation and Survivorship Program.

Provides individual and group counseling for victims of sexual assault and their families. Offers 24-hour hotline, information, advocacy, support, legal assistance and crisis counseling. trained counselors/advocates available to meet victims at hospital, police station and court. Assault Prevention Program offers personal safety programs to students in preschool through college. Day One serves victims of sexual assault, domestic violence and other violent crimes. Services include the 24-hour Victims of Crime Helpline; crisis intervention, individual and group counseling for children and adults, advocacy (including legal advocacy) for victims and their families. Also, the Sexual Assault Response Team (SART), the RI Children's Advocacy Center, prevention education and a new Family Foster Care Treatment Program for sexually abused children in foster care and their foster families.
