Best Buddies is a nonprofit organization dedicated to establishing a global volunteer movement that creates opportunities for one-to-one friendships, integrated employment and leadership development for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The IDD community that Best Buddies serves includes, but is not limited to, people with Down syndrome, autism, Fragile X, Williams syndrome, cerebral palsy, traumatic brain injury and other undiagnosed disabilities. Programs Best Buddies is the world’s largest organization dedicated to ending the social, physical and economic isolation of the 200 million people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). Our programs empower the special abilities of people with IDD by helping them form meaningful friendships with their peers, secure successful jobs, live independently, improve public speaking, self-advocacy and communication skills, and feel valued by society.

In RI, there are three meetings available: Steps by the Bay Saturday: 8:30 AM - 9:30 AM EST Trinity Church 139 Ocean Avenue Trinity Church is located on Ocean Avenue between the southern end of Narragansett Boulevard and Broad Street in Cranston. The RIPTA Number 3/3A bus (Warwick Avenue route) runs down Broad Street nearby. The group meets in the Bay Room. This is an open English language meeting concentrating on the steps, tools, and books of DA, especially as they relate to under-earning and overspending. The location is not handicap accessible. The Joy of Solvency Monday: 7:00PM - 8:00PM St. Luke's Episcopal Church 99 Pierce Street Enter from the parking lot in back. During the summer the group meets on the first floor just before the stairwell. During the winter the group meets on the second floor in the first room to the right at the top of the stairs. This is an open English language meeting focusing on book study, the 12 Steps, and visions. The location is not handicap accessible. Serenity Precedes Prosperity Tuesday: 7:30- 8:45 PM The Sarah Doyle Center 26 Benevolent Street The Sarah Doyle Center is on the Brown University campus. Group meets in Room 204 on the Second Floor. Focus on compulsive debting as it relates to under-earning. This is an open English language meeting.

Uses resources contributed to its Community Impact Fund to identify key issues in the community, research effective practices nationwide, and develop and implement the best solutions for Rhode Island. Efforts are focused on children's success in school as their pathway out of poverty; increasing job skills for low-income adults so they can better support themselves and their families and reducing homelessness by increasing the stock of affordable homes and piloting a supportive housing solution for chronically homeless individuals. Strategies include public policy, collaboration, leveraging of resources and relationships to expand the scope of work, educating the public on the issues, and increasing the community's capacity to respond to need. UWRI's mission is to mobilize the caring power of the community to improve the lives of people in need. UWRI's vision is a Rhode Island with fewer people in need.

A wide range of human and educational services across Rhode Island including outpatient/office-based program provides mental health counseling as well as medical services from psychiatrists. Substance abuse counselors provide treatment of adults and adolescents with substance abuse issues; treatment for family members affected by their loved one's addiction is also available. Based on the participant’s job readiness skills, they may be placed in either a paid or unpaid work experience with one of our collaborating business partners. Participants will also be encouraged to seek employment in the private sector.

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, CMS, is part of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), and is responsible for these programs which allow a large quantity of Americans access to healthcare they wouldn't otherwise get. Medicare is a health insurance program for people 65 and older, people under age 65 with certain disabilities, and people of all ages with End-Stage Renal Disease (permanent kidney failure requiring dialysis or a kidney transplant). To facilitate expeditious investigation of the alleged fraud, it is helpful to have as much information as possible. Pertinent information includes: Name of Medicaid client Client's Medicaid card number Name of doctor, hospital, or other healthcare provider Date of service Amount of money Medicaid approved and/or paid; and A description of the acts that you suspect involve fraud

Programs within the formal criminal justice system that provide facilities for the detention of people who have been charged with a crime and are awaiting trial, and/or the confinement, treatment, employment, training and discipline of people who have been sentenced to imprisonment after conviction for a criminal offense.

OSCIL works together with state and local government and public entities to eliminate architectural, communication, and attitudinal barriers. OSCIL has provided technical assistance to T.F. Greene Airport, area hospitals, Roger Williams Park, the Board of Canvassers, and many other private businesses and organizations to comply with the Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA) and Rhode Island Law 42-87-2. Individuals who experience barriers in the community, i.e. inaccessible restaurants, public events, schools, etc. are encouraged to call OSCIL for information and assistance. Part of OSCIL’s mission is to bring information to the community to help address barriers to independent living. This includes presentations on: -Assistive technology demonstrations -Barriers to effective communication -How Center services can help your independent living goals -Understanding nursing home transition -Utilizing telecommunication devices for the Deaf -How home modifications can increase access in a home -Young adult independent living skills training -Effective public testimony

PCA Program OSCIL’s Personal Care Attendant (PCA) program provides an alternative for persons with disability who are at risk of nursing home placement and in need of personal care attendant services, but are unable to access the traditional RI Medicaid Assistant Program. Eligible participants must be unable to acquire these services through other PCA programs and meet this criteria: they are significantly physically disabled assessed as needing services in order to maintain independence are capable of managing their attendants found to be eligible by all other program guidelines. This program is designed to allow consumers maintain their independence within their home.
