Girl Scouting helps cultivate values, social conscience and self-esteem in girls, while also teaching them critical life skills that will enable them to succeed as adults. In Girl Scouting, and its special girl only environment, girls discover the fun, friendship and power of girls together. The program is delivered through troops comprised of five age levels: Daisy, 5 - 6 years old; Brownie, 6 - 8 years; Junior, 8 - 11 years old; Cadette, 11 - 14 years old and Senior, 14 - 17 years old. Individual memberships are available for girls who cannot attend regular troop meetings. A summer camp program is conducted at six camps throughout the council's area. Bilingual Hispanic staff. Troop Leader/Co-Leader: Work with a group of girls and mentor them as they make new friends and develop connections that will last a lifetime. Troop Family and Friends: Assist with driving, activity planning, snacks, money management, or other tasks necessary to keep the troop running oh-so-smoothly from week to week. Cookie Volunteers: Coordinate the annual cookie sale at the troop level. Set up cookie booths, manage inventory and money, and then watch the girls light up when they earn the rewards for being the best cookie sellers ever! Service Unit Volunteers: Mentor adult volunteers as they work with Girl Scouts to create memories they will never forget. They provide clinical and support services for individuals and families with long-term needs associated with mental illness and substance abuse. Their goal is to help people live as independently and as fully integrated within the community as possible These might include basic needs assistance to address emergencies— counseling, treatment, support services and residential programs for individuals and families impacted by serious mental illness and addiction— emergency and supportive housing to prevent homelessness and promote stabilization— alternative education and services for families with young children and adolescents— and employment, financial literacy and vocational training to improve self-sufficiency.
