Conducts a computer literacy training program through the Career Mentoring Resource Center for unemployed and underemployed adults 18+ (must have a minimum of a high school diploma or GED). The UCP Rhode Island Children & Family Services program provides services to children with disabilities and their families under Rhode Island�s Home Based Therapeutic Services Program (HBTS). Medicaid eligible children (up to age 21) are provided comprehensive periodic evaluations to supplement the treatment of various medical conditions. Works with families to develop service plans for their children and assists the families to secure HBTS funding. Once a plan is approved, UCPRI provides case management and services, therapies, and training for the child and family. The object is to apply individualized services that permit the child to live at home and take an active part in school and community. UCPRI�s services may help relieve some of the financial strains that make raising a child with disabilities so stressful to both the family and child. Other Children & Family Services:

Provides information, referral and advocacy to families with children who have special needs. The Animal Control Department provides shelter to stray animals and attempts to return animals to their owners and place abandoned domestic animals in good homes. The officers may also arrange for the euthanization of animals that are sick or seriously injured.

Jail diversion programs provide an alternative to prison to individuals who have been arrested for a crime and are experiencing a behavioral health issue. Jail diversion typically involves reduced or no jail time if an offender participates in a behavioral health program. The program provides offenders with the education and tools they require to change their behavior patterns so they are not rearrested. Thrive’s Court Clinicians are located onsite or are readily available at all Rhode Island Courthouses. They provide psychiatric assessments, referrals and liaison services to individuals who have been identified by court personnel as candidates for jail diversion. Specialized services are provided to veterans and others who suffer from symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder. Defendants who are experiencing behavioral health symptoms are given a preliminary evaluation by the Thrive Clinician who determines their competency to understand the court proceedings, risk to the community, and willingness to comply with the recommended diversion program. Recommended diversion programs could include one or a combination of any of the following, depending on the need of the individual: outpatient mental health or substance abuse treatment, residential substance abuse treatment, a detox program, a crisis stabilization program, and/or inpatient hospitalization. A diversion program is often in lieu of spending time in jail and will become an order of the Court. Therefore full compliance in the recommend program(s) is necessary for success.

The Northern Rhode Island Collaborative (NRIC) is a non-profit educational service center committed to providing special education programs and educational services to partner school districts and community partners throughout northern Rhode Island. Foundations Academy (formerly the Regional Alternative Program): Provides special needs students - diagnosed with behavioral and emotional disorders - with an alternative to traditional schools. Foundations Academy (formerly the Specialized Alternative Program): Students who learn differently and have different abilities need the help and guidance of educators who are specially trained to develop and maximize those abilities. Educators in the Foundations Academy work to identify a student’s skills and their potential for learning new skills. Educators, parents and students then develop a progressive plan tailored to an individual’s educational needs and social well-being.

English for Speakers of Other Languages(ESOL)/English as a Second Language (ESL) instruction is provided on year-round basis. Classes are offered in the daytime, evenings, or Saturdays. Classes are offered at both our campuses. Students are placed into one of three levels English coursework depending on their English proficiency. Focus is on English Communicative skills - listening, speaking, reading, and writing - in order to increase students' interpersonal communications skills, decision-making skills, and problem-solving skills.

The Domestic Violence Resource Center of South County works toward a future free from violence. They work collaboratively to offer safety, support, advocacy, education and a network of services to residents of Washington County. DVRCSC has a confidential safe home for women who face homelessness as a result of domestic violence. Additional services include a Drop-In Advocacy Center, Support Groups and One-on-One Counseling by appointment. They offer education and outreach on the subject of healthy relationships, dating violence, cyber stalking and techno-abuse. DVRCSC can provide Court Advocates at McGrath Judicial Complex in Wakefield.
