The Bristol Historical Society was founded in 1936 to "promote interest in historical research, stimulate the study of the history of Southern New England, especially the Town of Bristol, and collect and preserve whatever is related thereto." Prior to housing the collections in the jail building on Court Street, the Society was located at the Rogers Free Library building. In 1957, a disastrous fire at the Library destroyed many of the Society's treasures and resulted in its lease of the then abandoned Bristol County Jail for use as a museum, library and meeting space.

The Ronald McDonald House of Providence is a temporary home for families with hospitalized children that is located next to Women & Infants’, Hasbro Children’s and Rhode Island Hospitals. In addition to its proximity to medical facilities, the House offers something even more important; the support that comes from being able to talk and share concerns with other parents going through similarly difficult situations. Built on land donated by Rhode Island Hospital, the Providence House has 28 bedrooms, a kitchen, a living room, dining area, a family room with play area, fitness room and laundry facilities. Dexter Manor I, is a 10-story elderly/disabled high-rise building located on the edge of the city’s Downtown neighborhood. In 1984 a new wing was added to the building containing an additional 91 units of elderly/disabled housing and the PHA’s Administrative Offices. Although the newer wing is technically a separate development named Dexter Manor II, the two are usually referred to collectively as Dexter Manor.
