With permanent housing, these individuals can begin to regain the self-confidence and control over their lives that may have been lost with years of homelessness. �Permanent Supportive Housing�- couples affordable housing with supportive services, such as life skills, case management and counseling to keep homeless families and individuals housed. �Operation First Step�- Created to replace Welcome Arnold Shelter with a system of smaller, community-based shelters. Operation First Step provides a higher level of case management, support and dignity than most night-to-night shelters. �Youth R.A.P.�- meets once a week and provides our youth with a variety of educational, social and skill building opportunities. Our goal is to provide youth with personal development, leadership opportunity, job-readiness skills, academic achievement and creative recreational opportunities on and off-site. �Life Skills�- meets once a week and gathers all the residents from our varied programs together. Led by our qualified staff, residents meet in a group setting and topics discussed include such things as depression, budgeting, time management, parenting, personal care and stress management. The Gaming and Athletics section is responsible for supervising the enforcement of laws related to licensing and regulation of gaming and athletics activities, including boxing, mixed martial arts, and simulcast wagering. It is also responsible for the collection of racing taxes and fees, as specified by state law. The division promulgates rules and regulations governing pari-mutuel wagering, boxing, and mixed martial arts; handles licensing, finger printing and photo badging of all personnel and licensees; ensures that security is furnished by licensees of pari-mutuel facilities, boxing, and mixed martial arts events; and provides aid and assistance to the public, as requested, including forms and copies of rules and regulations. The section also oversees simulcast-wagering operations at Twin River Casino Hotel and Tiverton Casino Hotel and/or participates in collection of tax revenue, hearings and issues occupational licenses. The section enforces, adjusts, amends, and interprets all rules and regulations governing pari-mutuel wagering sports and all professional boxing and mixed martial arts events in the state.

ONE Neighborhood Builders is a nonprofit community development organization dedicated to revitalizing Providence neighborhoods. Olneyville Housing Corporation, founded in 1988, changed its name to ONE Neighborhood Builders when it merged with Community Works Rhode Island in 2015. To date, we have developed 375 affordable apartments and over 115 for-sale homes, as well as more than 50,000 square feet of commercial and community space. These spaces include many properties that were formerly foreclosed and blighted in addition to historic buildings that ONE|NB works to preserve, saving landmarks while creating vibrant spaces to work and live.

Catherine T. Murray Memorial Scholarship The Catherine T. Murray Memorial Scholarship supports the philosophy and spirit of OSCIL by facilitating access to education for persons having disability. PLEASE NOTE, ONLY RHODE ISLAND RESIDENTS ARE ELIGIBLE TO APPLY FOR THIS SCHOLARSHIP. The Catherine T. Murray Memorial Scholarship was established in 1995 by Catherine Murray, a long-time educator and also a board member and valued volunteer at the Ocean State Center for Independent Living. It was her wish to support the philosophy and spirit of OSCIL through a scholarship that gives people with disability access to higher education. Grants of $1000+ are awarded to help students with a disability to continue their education past high school. Scholarship funds can be used for educational expenses such as tuition or the purchase of textbooks. They may also be used to obtain assistive/adaptive equipment or devices that aid the student in meeting their educational goals. To qualify for this scholarship applicants must: -have a significant disability -be a Rhode Island resident (Your home address MUST be in RI) -plan to attend a college, technical school, or a trade/vocational program in the upcoming academic year Preference is based on career goals, merit, and economic need.
