Fire inspections are required for various reasons. These may include but are not limited to: Sale of a business or a property Change of use (change of occupancy) Licensing Complaint or investigation Owners request Tent Nightclub Special Amusements, flame effects, pyrotechnics, and firework Occupancies required to be inspected per RIGL 23-28.5-1 Nightclubs with an occupancy of 150 and greater, places of assembly with an occupancy of 300 and greater and apartment buildings need to comply with fire alarm and sprinkler requirements listed in the Rhode Island State Fire Code. The Supplemental Security Income (SSI) program provides monthly payments to adults and children with a disability or blindness and who have income and resources below specified amounts. SSI payments can also be made to people 65 and older without disabilities who meet the financial limits. People who have worked long enough may also qualify to receive Social Security disability or retirement benefits as well as SSI.

Blackstone Valley Community Health Care offers behavioral health treatment to support the emotional wellbeing of each patient. The Behavioral Health team works closely with primary care providers to screen and assess the social, emotional, and behavioral needs of each patient. Counseling treatment is provided by highly trained Licensed Independent Clinical Social Workers, Licensed Clinical Social Workers, and Licensed Mental Health Counselors. The substance abuse task force identifies and addressed the issue of substance abuse in the city and its mission is to develop, implement, and advocate for effective community-based prevention initiatives.

Community Care Alliance strives to empower people experiencing economic insecurity, mental illness and addiction, housing issues, and trauma-related concerns. They provide clinical and support services for individuals and families with long-term needs associated with mental illness and substance abuse. Their goal is to help people live as independently and as fully integrated within the community as possible These might include basic needs assistance to address emergencies— counseling, treatment, support services and residential programs for individuals and families impacted by serious mental illness and addiction— emergency and supportive housing to prevent homelessness and promote stabilization— alternative education and services for families with young children and adolescents— and employment, financial literacy and vocational training to improve self-sufficiency.

Acute Stabilization Unit The ASU, as we call it, provides short term, residential services for the person who is having a mental health and/or substance abuse emergency, but who does not need hospitalization. Referrals are made through our Emergency Services Team, hospitals and other sources. Outpatient Counseling Services Counseling is provided in an office-setting for addictions, including problem gambling. Avatar is a certified Placement Agency for Shared Living programs throughout Rhode Island. Avatar Residential was one of the first agencies in Rhode Island to provide Shared Living Arrangements (SLAs) as an alternative to group home living. The key to success is a strong relationship between residents and Shared Living Providers. Avatar coordinates 27 SLAs throughout the state of RI. Some of the people that Avatar supports have found a good fit in their apartment/independent living programs. They tailor services to what people need (shopping, budgeting, recreation) while also fostering a great deal of independence and self-sufficiency.
