The Institute for the Study and Practice of Nonviolence’s (ISPN) mission is to teach, by word and example, the principles and practices of nonviolence, and to foster a community that addresses potentially violent situations with nonviolent solutions. To work to build Dr. King’s ideal of the nonviolent Beloved Community. ISPN is committed to providing its clients with nonviolence training, soft-skill building, character development, resume and job application assistance, mentoring, internship and job opportunities. The ultimate goal is to find them meaningful, long-term employment, or help them pursue education.

The substance abuse task force identifies and addressed the issue of substance abuse in the city and its mission is to develop, implement, and advocate for effective community-based prevention initiatives.

FHR continues to develop increasingly progressive models of care, with a focus on recovery, for individuals with serious and persistent mental illness. Their organization is a front-runner in behavioral health care, working with communities to accept and support residential programs, substance abuse programs, and fully-integrative programs, such as Assertive Community Treatment. The cornerstone of such work is the organization’s deep and longstanding commitment to the principles of recovery and the inclusion of peers in the recovery process. Clearly evident in its mission, FHR and its staff believe that all persons living with mental illness can and do recover, and with access to supports and resources can and do lead self-determined, independent, and fulfilling lives as contributing members of the community.

Dedicated to providing the public with environmentally sound programs and facilities to manage solid waste. Eco-Depot is a free service for properly disposing of household hazardous waste from RI households. Household hazardous waste is anything labeled with a skull and crossbones, or words like 'toxic', 'poison', 'flammable', 'combustible', etc. Examples include mercury devices, automotive fluids, fertilizers, pesticides, pool chemicals, and polishes.

Based on the participant’s job readiness skills, they may be placed in either a paid or unpaid work experience with one of our collaborating business partners. Participants will also be encouraged to seek employment in the private sector.

Renaissance Project is a tax-credit project that renovated apartments on on Goddard Street. With this project, 30 units were completely rehabbed and transformed into affordable apartments.

Rand Place Apartments is subsidized Housing 62+, handicapped or disabled. 1 and 2 bedrooms available.

Services: A one-year, intensive training program that provides urban young adults, ages 18-24, with a combination of hands-on skill development, an educational stipend, and corporate apprenticeships. During the first six months of the program, participants focus on skill mastery in Desktop Support / IT Help Desk; and the professional skills required in today's workplace such as effective communication, leadership, and teamwork. During the second six months of the program, students are placed in apprenticeships with local partner companies. A stipend is provided to all participants throughout the one-year, full-time educational program. In addition, Year Up students have an opportunity to earn up to 18 college credits through articulation agreements with NEIT and J&W University.
