The Exeter Fire Department No. 1 is a volunteer fire department that provides emergency services to the eastern half of Exeter Rhode Island. This department operates out of two stations: Station 1 - 305 Ten Rod Rd, Exeter, RI 02822, (401) 294-6511; Station 4, South Country Trail and Mail Rd, Exeter, RI 02822, (401) 294-6552.

Supports seniors and those with disabilities by providing opportunities for socialization, recreation, nutrition, education, information and referral, volunteering, health & fitness and all aspects of social services. They offer a full calendar of activities, including card games, bocce, walking, arts & crafts, yoga, exercise, Zumba, line dancing, bocce, bingo, and gardening (seasonally). They sponsor multiple field trips per month and educational presentations. The Social Services Office provides a wide range of resources, help and services to members of their community including SNAP/EBT applications, housing applications, heating assistance, Medicare, property tax relief and other case-by-case needs. AARP Yearly Tax Preparation is held February through April, by appointment only.

A comprehensive, State licensed adult day care program to provide medical, social and rehabilitative services to chronically impaired elders and disabled adults. Services include: nursing supervision, personal care, counseling, caregivers support/respite, exercises, activities, specialized therapies and nutrition. The Adult Day Services Program provides an array of supportive services designed to upgrade and increase the activities of daily living for older persons dependent upon continual family support and supervision. The major goal of the program is to reduce the potential for institutionalization of dependent elderly individuals otherwise at risk, and to increase their quality of life through the enhancement of their activities of daily living. The program provides supervised supportive care for frail elderly persons to meet the needs of the functionally impaired individual. Senior Inpatient Treatment Unit: Inpatient services for adults age 65 years and older, the geriatric unit is led by a specialized treatment team well versed in conditions such as Alzheimer’s and other cognitive disorders as well as depression, anxiety and other mood or psychotic disorders that may cause behavioral difficulties. The clinical team works to stabilize the patient for return home or to an assisted living campus with a comprehensive transition of care process. Memory and Aging Program: An internationally renowned research program dedicated to developing breakthroughs in prevention and treatments for Alzheimer’s disease, while this is not a clinical care program, it offers hope to those at risk or exhibiting memory loss symptoms. With multiple research trials underway, including registry for future studies, participants are people with normal memory who may be at jeopardy for dementia and those who are already experiencing signs of cognitive decline.
