This section is responsible for the administration of the National Flood Insurance Program, statewide emergency planning, including the ongoing enhancement of Rhode Island's Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan and the coordination of local and state plans, utilizing an all-hazards approach.
The Planning and Mitigation Section also focuses on current topics in emergency management, such as improving the State's resiliency to climate change and for future disasters through adaptation and mitigation programs.

Hospice Care, also referred to as palliative care, aims to improve quality of life and the physical, emotional, social, and spiritual needs for families of residents living with a serious illness. Scalabrini Villa collaborates with many different Hospice agencies to provide a variety of choices. Provides specialized palliative care and end of life services affording comfort and support to residents who are no longer seeking active treatment and have a life expectancy of months or weeks. The focus of the Hospice team and the Villa staff is the physical and emotional support to both the resident and their family members. Members of your hospice team at Scalabrini Villa may include physicians, a hospice doctor or medical director, skilled nurses, home health aides, social workers, mental health providers, trained volunteers, clergy and with special authorization could include: physical, occupational and speech therapists.

To volunteer as a mentor you must be: At least 19 years old, Open minded and non-judgmental, Open to diversity, Willing to commit to a minimum of one year to the program (or three semesters if college student), Able to spend three or four hours each week or every other week with a child, Able to establish and maintain a one-to-one relationship with a child, Able to access an insured car or willing to take public transportation.
Programs Include:
Traditional Program - The Traditional Mentoring Program matches at-risk girls and boys between the ages of 7 and 15, in long-term, one-to-one relationships with adult female and male volunteer mentors.
�Big Mentor League� Program - This is a special program provided by Big Sisters of Rhode Island, in partnership with the Urban League of Rhode Island and Rhode Island Mentoring Partnership working with girls & boys who have a parent currently incarcerated. The girls/boys range in age from 4 to 18 years old and are from all over Rhode Island.
Hermana(o) a Hermana(o) - BBBSOS matches Latina girls/Latino boys with mentors. The girls/boys are considered to be at-risk for academic failure or delinquency or lacking a strong role model.
School-Based Mentoring - This program provides mentorship to both girls and boys after class at their school. This program provides a structured environment to assist in academic success.
Donation Center - The BSRI Donation Center provides a sustained source of revenue for the vital social service activities of the agency by collecting donations of gently used clothing, household items, small appliances, books and toys (also accepts TV's, computers, and other large electronics for a $10 processing fee) through a combination of scheduled home pick-ups, on-site clothing drop-offs, and targeted community clothing drives.
