Fire prevention programs provide information about faulty wiring and other electrical hazards, kitchen fires, smoking risks, child-related fire safety, flammable materials storage, brush clearance, fire retardant building materials and ground cover, techniques for fighting a fire until the fire agency arrives (first aid firefighting) and other similar topics. Included are programs that inspect the homes of individual citizens and give them a report which recommends ways to protect their property as well as those that deal with fire safety in a more general way.

The EMA also has general supervision of all civil preparedness duties and performs any other duties as assigned by the Town Manager. Jamestown EMA staff is trained to distribute medical supplies, food and water at times when it may be required. Shelter: Melrose School, located at 76 Melrose Ave will be operational and staffed in partnership with the Rhode Red Cross at anytime that residents may be required to leave their homes. The staff at the shelter is trained to provide basic needs including food, water and medical treatment. Pets may also be sheltered at the Lawn Avenue School during these events.
