When funds available: Provides emergency fuel and energy assistance "Keep the Heat On" during winter months (November - April). Rental and prescription assistance when funds are available. The Northern Rhode Island Collaborative (NRIC) is a non-profit educational service center committed to providing special education programs and educational services to partner school districts and community partners throughout northern Rhode Island. Foundations Academy (formerly the Regional Alternative Program): Provides special needs students - diagnosed with behavioral and emotional disorders - with an alternative to traditional schools. Foundations Academy (formerly the Specialized Alternative Program): Students who learn differently and have different abilities need the help and guidance of educators who are specially trained to develop and maximize those abilities. Educators in the Foundations Academy work to identify a student’s skills and their potential for learning new skills. Educators, parents and students then develop a progressive plan tailored to an individual’s educational needs and social well-being.

Also included are programs that enforce leash laws and animal sanitation ordinances and those that handle complaints regarding domestic animals who have bitten someone or are otherwise making nuisances of themselves. Most animal control programs are unable to handle nuisance wildlife unless the animal is sick or shows symptoms of rabies.

Daniel Child House is an affordable assisted living home, offering 3 meals each day, 24/7 care, assistance with daily tasks including bathing and dressing if necessary, and offering transportation to doctors appointments. Offers 22 beds in both private and semi-private rooms.

Services: Long term residence for women who are homeless due to battering or addiction. We offer a variety of services including counseling, education, life skills, etc.

The substance abuse task force identifies and addressed the issue of substance abuse in the city and its mission is to develop, implement, and advocate for effective community-based prevention initiatives.

Provides preschool to childrenages 3-5 in a small classroom setting with a uniquely caring environment. Art, music, creative movement, Chinese and wildlife specialist enhance the core curriculum.

Eco-Depot is a free service for properly disposing of household hazardous waste from RI households. Household hazardous waste is anything labeled with a skull and crossbones, or words like 'toxic', 'poison', 'flammable', 'combustible', etc. Examples include mercury devices, automotive fluids, fertilizers, pesticides, pool chemicals, and polishes.

Offers meetings twice a year, Fall and Spring, a newsletter, parent support meetings, annual conferences, an up-to-date library, social events and new parent information packets, Buddy Walk, holiday party. They offer parents support, information, and advocate in the service system and in the community. We also offer newsletters, public awareness activities, and support. DSSRI provides information, experience, and support on challenges associated with raising a child with Down syndrome. We share this information with parents, family members, professionals and other individuals through informational meetings with speakers and panels, newsletters , and special events. DSSRI also provides support on an individual, parent- to- parent basis. DSSRI offers free New Parent Baskets to new Down syndrome families, which includes books about Down syndrome, pamphlets, toys, and something for mom and dad to help celebrate their new little one. DSSRI also serves as a resource for professionals interested in parental concerns. We provide speakers to schools, colleges, professional organizations and civic/ fraternal groups. DSSRI also advocates in the service system and in the community for all individuals with developmental disabilities and their families.

Clínica Esperanza provides linguistically-appropriate, culturally-attuned medical care to uninsured adults living in Rhode Island. Since 2010, they have served more than 10,000 patients, 80% of whom are Spanish-speaking, through the clinic and health education programs. Free healthcare is provided by a team of multi-lingual volunteers and core staff. They believe healthcare is a human right.
