Jail diversion programs provide an alternative to prison to individuals who have been arrested for a crime and are experiencing a behavioral health issue. Jail diversion typically involves reduced or no jail time if an offender participates in a behavioral health program. The program provides offenders with the education and tools they require to change their behavior patterns so they are not rearrested. Thrive’s Court Clinicians are located onsite or are readily available at all Rhode Island Courthouses. They provide psychiatric assessments, referrals and liaison services to individuals who have been identified by court personnel as candidates for jail diversion. Specialized services are provided to veterans and others who suffer from symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder. Defendants who are experiencing behavioral health symptoms are given a preliminary evaluation by the Thrive Clinician who determines their competency to understand the court proceedings, risk to the community, and willingness to comply with the recommended diversion program. Recommended diversion programs could include one or a combination of any of the following, depending on the need of the individual: outpatient mental health or substance abuse treatment, residential substance abuse treatment, a detox program, a crisis stabilization program, and/or inpatient hospitalization. A diversion program is often in lieu of spending time in jail and will become an order of the Court. Therefore full compliance in the recommend program(s) is necessary for success.

Services: A full-service healthcare network, including a 214-bed, acute-care hospital, 19-bed Transitional Care Unit, and an 18-bed inpatient psychiatric program at the Woonsocket Unit. Hospital services include emergency, diagnostic, medical, surgical, psychiatric, cancer, cardiac and obstetric. The Fogarty Unit in North Smithfield is the location of the Occupational Health Department and MRI unit. Landmark's network of primary care facilities includes adult and geriatric care at the Landmark Adult Primary Care Medicine and Pulmonary Medicine located in Woonsocket;obstetric/gynecological care practices in North Smithfield and Greenville; Comprehensive Psychiatric Care Services in Lincoln; and Physician Centers offering services including family practice, family medicine, and obstetric/gynecological in Cumberland, North Smithfield, and Burrilliville, RI as well as Blackstone, Ma. Landmark also offers specialized cardiac rehabilitation services through the Heart Center in Woonsocket. Landmark Medical Center also owns the 82-bed Rehabilitation Hospital of Rhode Island in North Smithfield. However, because it is staffed by volunteers, anyone needing assistance is asked to call the Social Services department to schedule a time to pick up food. Appointments are made for Wednesday mornings beginning at 9 am or Wednesday afternoons. Emergency situations will open the food bank as needed. Donations to the Food Bank can be dropped off at Town Hall or at the Exeter Public Library. Thanksgiving/Winter Holiday baskets and toy distribution for area residents.
