The Workers' Compensation Division monitors the workers' compensation system, ensuring that appropriate documents are filed to protect injured workers and employers, that claims are paid correctly, that all required employers have insurance coverage, and that insurance carriers report policy information to the Division. The Division also compiles information about injuries and costs, provides educational services, and investigates fraud. The Robert F. Arrigan Rehabilitation Center provides physical and vocational rehabilitation services for injured workers.

Residential school for boys, grades seven through twelve. Offering a full high school diploma, the school is licensed by the Rhode Island Department of Education (RIDE) and accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC). In addition, we offer a certified special education program and career/technical education programming. Our student body is comprised of Ocean Tides residential students and students referred by their school district for education purposes (both regular and special education). Each candidate is screened by the Director of Special Education and the Principal before admittance to ensure the student is ready and willing to enter the program. Given the severe educational difficulties these students have experienced in the past, Ocean Tides seeks to provide creative, individualized programs that meet the needs of all in our care. We provide: Positive behavior program and multiple positive behavioral supports, including stipends paid to students. Our services include individual, family, and group counseling addressing substance abuse, family dynamics, physical effects of drugs, grief/loss, and how to sustain a successful recovery. Our goal is to help each individual maintain lasting recovery from drug or alcohol addiction and become a productive member of society.

OSCIL offers comprehensive independent living assessment services as requested by private individuals, vendors, Medicaid and State agencies. Comprehensive assessments provide recommendations for specialized equipment, home modifications and/or independent living services that are required for the consumer to achieve goals for independence in the home and community. OSCIL has a fee-for-service program to provide assessments. We are currently working with consumers on RI Medicaid, Neighborhood Health Plan’s Integrity Program and the Office of Rehabilitation Services (ORS). Medicaid/NHP assessments are typically done to provide justification for specialized equipment covered by the consumer’s insurance. Some examples would include, ramps, stairlifts, VPLs, and specialized bathroom equipment. Consumer’s must be on a participating insurance plan to receive the assessment; if they are on another insurance plan OSCIL will refer the consumer to the correct process for assessment. OSCIL also completes assessments for home modifications funded by the Office of Rehabilitation Services (ORS). First ORS will send a referral requesting the Home Modification Assessments, and then OSCIL staff will complete a full assessment to recommend any home modification to increase accessibility and send a report of the findings to ORS.

The substance abuse task force identifies and addressed the issue of substance abuse in the city and its mission is to develop, implement, and advocate for effective community-based prevention initiatives.
