The UCP Rhode Island Children & Family Services program provides services to children with disabilities and their families under Rhode Island�s Home Based Therapeutic Services Program (HBTS). Medicaid eligible children (up to age 21) are provided comprehensive periodic evaluations to supplement the treatment of various medical conditions. Works with families to develop service plans for their children and assists the families to secure HBTS funding. Once a plan is approved, UCPRI provides case management and services, therapies, and training for the child and family. The object is to apply individualized services that permit the child to live at home and take an active part in school and community. UCPRI�s services may help relieve some of the financial strains that make raising a child with disabilities so stressful to both the family and child. Other Children & Family Services:
  • CAP (Community Activities Project) provides financial support enabling children with disabilities to participate in community and recreational activities.
Provides information, referral and advocacy to families with children who have special needs. UCPRI will assist families in identifying their needs (home health care, learning, recreation) and work with them to secure funding. Adult Education: UCP Rhode Island�s Adult Education Community Classrooms meet throughout RI. Instruction is individualized, based on the personal learning goals of each student. Most classes meet for 3 hours a week for 12 weeks. DVRCSC has a confidential safe home for women who face homelessness as a result of domestic violence. Catherine T. Murray Memorial Scholarship The Catherine T. Murray Memorial Scholarship supports the philosophy and spirit of OSCIL by facilitating access to education for persons having disability. PLEASE NOTE, ONLY RHODE ISLAND RESIDENTS ARE ELIGIBLE TO APPLY FOR THIS SCHOLARSHIP. The Catherine T. Murray Memorial Scholarship was established in 1995 by Catherine Murray, a long-time educator and also a board member and valued volunteer at the Ocean State Center for Independent Living. It was her wish to support the philosophy and spirit of OSCIL through a scholarship that gives people with disability access to higher education. Grants of $1000+ are awarded to help students with a disability to continue their education past high school. Scholarship funds can be used for educational expenses such as tuition or the purchase of textbooks. They may also be used to obtain assistive/adaptive equipment or devices that aid the student in meeting their educational goals. To qualify for this scholarship applicants must: -have a significant disability -be a Rhode Island resident (Your home address MUST be in RI) -plan to attend a college, technical school, or a trade/vocational program in the upcoming academic year Preference is based on career goals, merit, and economic need.

It is also responsible for the collection of racing taxes and fees, as specified by state law. The division promulgates rules and regulations governing pari-mutuel wagering, boxing, and mixed martial arts; handles licensing, finger printing and photo badging of all personnel and licensees; ensures that security is furnished by licensees of pari-mutuel facilities, boxing, and mixed martial arts events; and provides aid and assistance to the public, as requested, including forms and copies of rules and regulations. The section also oversees simulcast-wagering operations at Twin River Casino Hotel and Tiverton Casino Hotel and/or participates in collection of tax revenue, hearings and issues occupational licenses. The section enforces, adjusts, amends, and interprets all rules and regulations governing pari-mutuel wagering sports and all professional boxing and mixed martial arts events in the state.
