The Traffic Tribunal is part of the Rhode Island unified court system and is comprised of eight (8) judicial officers, which include a Chief Magistrate, an Administrative Magistrate, two (2) Associate Judges, and four (4) Magistrates. The Traffic Tribunal has original jurisdiction over civil traffic offenses committed in Rhode Island, including breathalyzer refusals. Further, the Traffic Tribunal has authority over certain Department of Environmental Management offenses. The Traffic Tribunal has oversight responsibilities and concurrent jurisdiction with the Municipal Courts for lesser traffic offenses. The Traffic Tribunal operates several daily calendars including arraignments, trials, motions, and citation (collections) cases. The court also has an Appeals Division which processes Traffic Tribunal, Municipal Court, and Division of Motor Vehicle appeals.

They provide clinical and support services for individuals and families with long-term needs associated with mental illness and substance abuse. Their goal is to help people live as independently and as fully integrated within the community as possible These might include basic needs assistance to address emergencies— counseling, treatment, support services and residential programs for individuals and families impacted by serious mental illness and addiction— emergency and supportive housing to prevent homelessness and promote stabilization— alternative education and services for families with young children and adolescents— and employment, financial literacy and vocational training to improve self-sufficiency.

Shower to Empower links basic needs such as complimentary showers and haircuts with case management and medical navigation services in a mobile delivery model. It is aimed to provide basic needs and restore dignity to Rhode Island’s experiencing homelessness, ultimately making connections to essential services. The unit is a customized 20’ x 8.3’ trailer that includes two individual showers, heated floors, an area for case management, and an enclosed private medical space. The mobile unit travels throughout Providence alongside House of Hope CDC’s street outreach team providing hot showers, haircuts, case management, and medical navigation services to individuals experiencing homelessness.
