The Rhode Island Academy of Family Physicians exists to promote the health of the patients, families and communities of Rhode Island by advancing the specialty of family medicine through education and advocacy. The Rhode Island Academy of Family Physicians (RIAFP) is a 189-active, 13 Life, 50 Resident, and 400 student member of the Rhode Island affiliate of the American Academy of Family Physicians, the largest primary care physician organization in the United States. RIAFP supports ongoing physician education, works with residents in primary care, and advocates public policies to improve the health care system. RIAFP works with the RI Medical Society and the RI Department of Health, to achieve those aims. Members staff private practices and community health centers, deliver babies, make home visits, and treat patients at every hospital in Rhode Island. Doctors work with schools, day care centers, nursing homes, and care for entire families from every community in the state.

Dorcas International is currently the only agency in Rhode Island that is authorized by the U.S. Department of State to resettle refugees arriving to the U.S. From airport pick-up to securing housing, providing cultural orientation and intensive case management, health screenings, and enrolling children in school and adults in our in-house Educating and Training Program, we serve the immediate needs of resettled refugees. Our goal is to empower recently arrived refugees by providing them with the necessary tools and information to successfully transition into their new communities. The U.S. government places refugees in 49 states by working with none private non-profit national agencies, and Dorcas International is an affiliate partner of one of these official agencies.
