The Johnston Animal Control Division is housed within the Johnston Police Department's Special Services Bureau. The Town of Johnston does not maintain a local, full-time, Animal Shelter however it shares the City of North Providence's facility located at 900 Smithfield Rd., North Providence, RI (719-1516). The Johnston Police Department's ACO handles all issues regarding only Domesticated Animals. All wild Animal calls must be sent to the RI Department of Environmental Management and all rodent calls must be made to your private rodent removal company. If you suspect a domesticated and/or wild animal may be rabid, you may contact the Johnston Police Department to assess the potential public safety concern.

Programs that are designed to increase public awareness of the measures that people can take to protect homes, businesses and property from the threat of fire. Fire prevention programs provide information about faulty wiring and other electrical hazards, kitchen fires, smoking risks, child-related fire safety, flammable materials storage, brush clearance, fire retardant building materials and ground cover, techniques for fighting a fire until the fire agency arrives (first aid firefighting) and other similar topics. Included are programs that inspect the homes of individual citizens and give them a report which recommends ways to protect their property as well as those that deal with fire safety in a more general way.

A 25 bed, co-ed Assisted Living Residence for adults and seniors with behavioral healthcare needs who require assistance with everyday activities. Staff assists residents with coordination of services and encourage participation in various activities in the local area. Evergreen is staffed with dually-licensed Nursing Assistants and Medication Aides. A Registered Nurse meets monthly with residents to evaluate healthcare needed and coordinate service planning. The UCAP School was established for middle school children who are at risk of dropping out of school because they have fallen behind a grade or more. UCAP offers an accelerated program that provides the academic and social skills these children need to succeed in school.

Support and advocacy for the blind. Monthly meetings focus mainly on advocacy activities such as legislative and public policy development and public education. However, peer support for individuals is available and provided as needed. Purpose of the group is to foster positive attitudes towards blindness for both the blind and sighted communities. Blackstone Valley Community Health Care offers behavioral health treatment to support the emotional wellbeing of each patient. The Behavioral Health team works closely with primary care providers to screen and assess the social, emotional, and behavioral needs of each patient. Counseling treatment is provided by highly trained Licensed Independent Clinical Social Workers, Licensed Clinical Social Workers, and Licensed Mental Health Counselors. Services include: Individual Therapy, 1:1 support for patients to help address mental health challenges to change or improve quality of life; Group Therapy allows patients to receive support from our behavioral health clinicians and other members of the group, helping them to feel less alone or isolated; Referral Services for those in need of more intensive, wrap-around services than BVCHC can provide, connecting to local community resources; Peer Recovery Coaching, offered by a certified recovery specialist to provide insight into the recovery process and help patients become and stay engaged in the recovery process to reduce the likelihood of relapse; Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT) an evidence-based practice used to identify, reduce, and prevent problematic use, abuse, and dependence on alcohol and illicit drugs.
