Dorcas International is currently the only agency in Rhode Island that is authorized by the U.S. Department of State to resettle refugees arriving to the U.S. From airport pick-up to securing housing, providing cultural orientation and intensive case management, health screenings, and enrolling children in school and adults in our in-house Educating and Training Program, we serve the immediate needs of resettled refugees. Our goal is to empower recently arrived refugees by providing them with the necessary tools and information to successfully transition into their new communities. The U.S. government places refugees in 49 states by working with none private non-profit national agencies, and Dorcas International is an affiliate partner of one of these official agencies.

Founded in 1971, CODAC Behavioral Healthcare is Rhode Island’s oldest and largest non-profit, outpatient provider of treatment for Opioid Use Disorder (OUD). With seven community-based locations, as well as programming at the Rhode Island Department of Corrections (RI DOC), CODAC is well-positioned to deliver services wherever they are needed across the state. CODAC offers psychiatric and mental health services at all of their locations. After an initial intake screening you may be referred to an on-site psychiatric practitioner for further evaluation and treatment. Individualized treatment and recovery plans might include medication management supervised by the psychiatric practitioner and ongoing co-occurring counseling with clinical staff. It is not unusual to have both mental health disorders and a substance use disorder. Because the two conditions are so closely linked, CODAC has responded to offer you effective treatment and recovery programs to address both disorders concurrently.

During this crucial stage of a child’s growth and development, the Seven Hills EI professionals work with families as a team to help them help their children where they learn best: at home and in community settings. Seven Hills EI program partners each family with a Service Coordinator who works with a team to assess the child’s development based on medical history, observation of the child performing a daily routine, and learning about the child’s likes, dislikes, successes, and difficulties. If the child is eligible for EI, the team will work with the family to develop an Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP), to develop priorities, goals and outcomes. The Seven Hills professionals make it as convenient as possible for families to schedule their EI visits in the child’s natural environment—at home, in a child care setting, or during a community activity. The family’s multidisciplinary EI team may include educators, therapists, social workers, and nutritionists. Parent Consultants (PCs)—parents whose children have been through the EI program—are also available to share resources, offer support, and facilitate networking.

Public Finance: RIPEC worked with State leaders to restructure and reduce the personal income tax system, reduce capital gains taxes, enact property tax cap legislation, phase-out the business inventory tax and change the frequency of property revaluation. In addition, RIPEC has played a critical role in reforming state government through landmark pension and health care reform. Education: RIPEC worked with legislative leaders in the adoption of a school funding formula - the first in fifteen years - and developed school accountability initiatives which were translated into landmark education reform legislation (Article 31). RIPEC has also been involved in on-going research on consolidation options on Aquidneck Island and around the State. Human Services: RIPEC partnered with the United Way to develop a comprehensive analysis of the State's social safety net and has been involved in efforts to monitor the State's progress on reforming entitlement programs. Economic Development: RIPEC has worked with business leaders and General Assembly membership to improve Rhode Island's perceived business friendliness, including the passage of historic personal income tax reform legislation.
