Stroke Specialty The Stroke Specialty Rehabilitation Program, a CARF recognized program, provides adults needing therapy to improve their function and quality of life. Our patients have been diagnosed with cerebral vascular accidents (CVA), intracranial hemorrhages, and thrombo/embolic strokes. Neurorehabilitation This program treats patients with diagnoses such as brain injury, Parkinson’s disease, spinal cord injury, and multiple sclerosis. Our dedicated staff work with patients to regain the skills to walk, communicate and live more independently. Our therapists also treat patients with cognitive and/or behavioral disabilities. Orthopedic Our rehabilitation program treats patients after hip fractures, joint replacement, and multiple trauma. We strive to always improve our therapy, and our orthopedic program’s innovations have been published in major rehabilitation journals. A resource center for children, families and caregivers struggling with Epilepsy on a daily basis. To provide funding for Epilepsy research, education, awareness and scholarships for children with Epilepsy. The resource center awards scholarships to high school seniors, a week long camp, research, lecture series, hospital presentations and special events for epilepsy. Offers support and outreach to families affected by epilepsy throughout Rhode Island. Provides Information, advocacy, and education in a variety of ways, including:
  • Parent Coordinator: an informed understanding advocate who is available to offer support, answer questions, and help families connect with other families living with epilepsy.
  • Family Support Group: a monthly, Discovering M.E. (My Epilepsy), designed to give children who have seizures, along with their parents and sibling, a supportive and fun setting to for helping each other understand the many life changes associated with epilepsy.
  • Educational Coordinator: promotes epilepsy awareness and education, including school programs and specialized workshops for school nurses and teachers which focus on identifying seizure activity, understanding how seizures affect learning, and teaching safety protocol to follow when a child has a seizure at school.
  • Camp Matty: a week long therapeutic horseback riding summer day camp for children with epilepsy.

Elizabeth Buffum Chace Center offers short-term, safe, confidential shelter for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault and their children. Residents are provided with all basic needs and are encouraged to participate in a program that includes education about domestic violence, parenting and financial literacy. Provides specialized children’s services, advocacy and referrals. 16 bed capacity, NOT handicap accessible. Services Available: Case management; Crisis intervention (on-site); Domestic violence support and education; Housing search and education; Budgeting and financial literacy; 3 meals per day. Important Policies: Rent is NOT required; Medications are locked and stored in a secure location and available to guest as prescribed; Smoking allowed in designated outdoor areas; Drug/alcohol free environment; Children must be supervised at all times; Agency follows least-harm model. The Elizabeth Buffum Chace Center offers a transitional housing program for families who have been affected by domestic violence and sexual assault. Our program provides safety, stability and support, while clients take the next steps toward self-sufficiency. The Elizabeth Buffum Chace Center is excited to announce it's new Permanent Supportive Housing program. Housing with no end date with wrap-around services available if needed.
