The Gaming and Athletics section is responsible for supervising the enforcement of laws related to licensing and regulation of gaming and athletics activities, including boxing, mixed martial arts, and simulcast wagering. It is also responsible for the collection of racing taxes and fees, as specified by state law.
The division promulgates rules and regulations governing pari-mutuel wagering, boxing, and mixed martial arts; handles licensing, finger printing and photo badging of all personnel and licensees; ensures that security is furnished by licensees of pari-mutuel facilities, boxing, and mixed martial arts events; and provides aid and assistance to the public, as requested, including forms and copies of rules and regulations.
The section also oversees simulcast-wagering operations at Twin River Casino Hotel and Tiverton Casino Hotel and/or participates in collection of tax revenue, hearings and issues occupational licenses. The section enforces, adjusts, amends, and interprets all rules and regulations governing pari-mutuel wagering sports and all professional boxing and mixed martial arts events in the state.

If groups of people are victimized by a deceptive trade practice, this office may file in the Superior Court a civil investigative demand, which is a formal investigation. In appropriate cases, a lawsuit to stop the illegal business practice may be initiated.
Apart from carrying out its statutory responsibilities, the Unit also provides information and referral services to the general public. Consumers are directed to the appropriate governmental or private agencies for help in answering specialized questions or resolving disputes that are not within the Unit's jurisdiction.

The program performs several licensing functions including, but not limited to, the licensing of companies, producers, adjusters and appraisers. The program also reviews rate and form filings for the Life, Accident and Health, and Property and Casualty lines of business for compliance with state statutes and regulations, and addresses consumer complaints for these lines of business. The program monitors and introduces legislation in order to maintain accreditation by the National Association of Insurance Commissioners, which it initially received in June of 1993. The division was re-accredited in December 1998, December 2003, June 2009, and in June 2014, each time receiving the maximum accreditation period of five years.

Through the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC), insurance regulators establish national standards and best practices, conduct peer reviews and coordinate their regulatory oversight to better protect the interests of consumers while ensuring a strong, viable insurance marketplace. U.S. insurance regulators also participate in the International Association of Insurance Supervisors (IAIS) along with the NAIC by participating in major standard setting initiatives, including working with fellow regulators from around the world to better supervise cross-border insurers, identifying systemic risk in the insurance sector, and creating international best practices.

Support and advocacy for the blind. Monthly meetings focus mainly on advocacy activities such as legislative and public policy development and public education. However, peer support for individuals is available and provided as needed. Purpose of the group is to foster positive attitudes towards blindness for both the blind and sighted communities.

The Greater Providence Chapter of the NFB of RI meets on the second Saturday of each month, except for the months of July and October from 10:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and they are preceded by a social half hour at 10 Office Parkway, in East Providence. A statewide organization of families supporting families with children and youth who are at risk or have behavioral or emotional challenges, having consideration for their background and values. They provide support groups, telephone support, educational events, one-to-one assistance with advocacy and/or literature concerning education, mental health, parenting a child with special emotional or behavioral needs. PSN also provides support and education regarding systems navigation, specifically child welfare, juvenile justice, mental health special education.
Support groups meet on 1st and 3rd Tuesday of the month from 6pm to 8pm at PSN office.
