Volunteers are trained to assist older adults and those with disabilities understand health care costs and coverage and deal with issues regarding health care. SHIP volunteers provide one-to-one counseling to seniors, adults with disabilities, families and caregivers and discuss topics like Medicare, Medicare drug plans, supplemental insurance, Medicare Advantage plans, over insurance, free and reduced-cost medical care programs, federal retiree health insurance, Veterans benefits and long-term care insurance and other programs.

The Supplemental Security Income (SSI) program provides monthly payments to adults and children with a disability or blindness who have income and resources below specific financial limits. SSI payments are also made to people age 65 and older without disabilities who meet the financial qualifications. You may be eligible to receive SSI monthly payments even if you are already receiving Social Security Disability Insurance or retirement benefits.

Medicare Savings Programs | Benefits Enrollment Center

Your state can pay your Medicare Part A (Hospital Insurance) and Part B (Medical Insurance) premiums through a Medicare Savings Program. If you qualify, Medicare Savings Programs might also pay your Part A and Part B deductibles, coinsurance, and copayments. You will apply for Medicare Savings Programs through your state. When you apply, your state determines which program(s) you qualify for. Even if you don’t think you qualify, you should still apply. Here are the types of Medicare Saving Program based on level of income: -Qualified Medicare Beneficiary (QMB) Program: Helps pay for: Part A premiums; Part B premiums, deductibles, coinsurance, and copayments (for services and items Medicare covers). -Specified Low-Income Medicare Beneficiary (SLMB) Program: Helps pay for: Part B premiums (You must have both Part A and Part B to qualify.) -Qualifying Individual (QI) Program: Helps pay for: Part B premiums (You must have both Part A and Part B to qualify.) -Qualified Disabled Working Individual (QDWI) Program: You may qualify for the QDWI Program if you: -Have a disability -Are working -Lost Your Social Security disability benefits and Medicare premium-free Part A because you returned to work Helps pay for: Part A premiums only

Provides hospitality and direct services to the homeless and poor of Rhode Island. Offers Transitional Housing Program for men and women who are homeless and looking to achieve sobriety. Permanent supportive housing includes five rooming houses (35 rooms) and 22 apartments. First priority is given to graduates of the 90-Day Transitional Housing Program. Residents live in a clean and sober community and continue to benefit from Amos House programs and services. Registered Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) site: Staff of tax preparers are IRS trained, tested, and certified to help people who qualify for the Earned Income Tax Credit program receive the tax credits they deserve. THIS IS A FREE SERVICE. You must bring a copy of your previous year's return, all financial statements pertaining to tax year, your social security card, and a picture ID. Employment Training Programs including: culinary arts, carpentry and literacy training programs. Additional Services: Emergency assistance, including help with rent and utilities Transportation assistance (bus passes and RIPTIX) Substance abuse counseling, program and referrals HIV education and referrals Mental health referrals Health care on site, once a week Assistance with dental care Prescription, eye exams and eyeglass assistance Legal aid referrals Help with applications for SSI Help with applications for food stamps, FIP and other benefits Personal hygiene items Housing placement and assistance with housing-related problems
