The Northern Rhode Island Collaborative is a public, non-profit educational institution which was established in 1987. The multi-purpose educational collaborative provides special education programs and services primarily to its member school districts in northern Rhode Island.

A supported employment program operating a plant and flower shop which provides work opportunities for adults with persistent psychiatric disabilities. Source of income: Grant from MHRH, retail sales, private foundation, fundraisers.

Services: Comprehensive services for persons with developmental disabilities including vocational training, community and sheltered employment, skills training, adult basic education; recreational activities. Administers licensed special education program, apartment facilities and group homes. Operates specialized program for behaviorally handicapped and autistic adults; independent living program. Provides comprehensive rehabilitation services to persons, 18 - 100, who are blind or severely visually impaired, through a center-based program, regional satellites, or community services. Included are daily living skills training, orientation and mobility, counseling, diabetic program, summer camp, low vision services, workshop training and employment, a closed circuit radio information service, volunteer services, speakers bureau, tapes, Braille material, aids and appliances. Sponsors support groups throughout the state. Income Source: Donations; corporations; foundations; grants; endowment; United Way (associate member)

Provides persons with developmental disabilities with the necessary skills and support that will enable them to realize their personal goals of becoming effective members of their community. Skills including cognitive skills, community orientation, socialization and interpersonal skills, self care habits and development of work skills and behavior. Provides supported employment and recreational programs. Income Source: United Way; State contracts; School contracts.
