English for Speakers of Other Languages(ESOL)/English as a Second Language (ESL) instruction is provided on year-round basis. Classes are offered in the daytime, evenings, or Saturdays. Classes are offered at both our campuses. Students are placed into one of three levels English coursework depending on their English proficiency. Focus is on English Communicative skills - listening, speaking, reading, and writing - in order to increase students' interpersonal communications skills, decision-making skills, and problem-solving skills.

Based at Providence Public Library, Rhode Island Family Literacy Initiative (RIFLI) is a free, nationally recognized ESL, citizenship preparation, workforce development and family literacy program for adults based at public libraries throughout Rhode Island.

Intermediate and advanced level English language classes designed to help improve communication skills in preparation for job training and/or going directly into the workforce. Staff will create an individual learning plan that best suits your educational needs and career goals. Additional soft skills classes and workshops are included, based on the individual learning plan. An adult facility that trains students from a great diversity of many populations. The training programs focus on four main areas:

• Bookkeeping
• Social and Human Services
• ESOL English as a Second Language

They are dedicated to helping families integrate into American society. AHOPE is an entirely volunteer based organization. their members range from students to professionals, all dedicated to helping develop prosperous Rhode Island communities.

Services: English as a Second Language (ESL) classes for adults; International Friendship program; foreign language classes; World discovery classroom project; orientation program for international students, doctors and business trainees who are temporarily in Rhode Island; nationality events, dinners and teas. Also informal counseling and linkage to community services and organizations. Low cost guest rooms. Drop-in center. Aid and services for all temporary international residents in the southern New England area.

Services: To promote and foster increased literacy in southwestern Rhode Island and southeastern Connecticut through free, student-centered, volunteer teaching of basic literacy, English as a second language, and other literacy programs, primarily to adults.

Dorcas International is currently the only agency in Rhode Island that is authorized by the U.S. Department of State to resettle refugees arriving to the U.S. From airport pick-up to securing housing, providing cultural orientation and intensive case management, health screenings, and enrolling children in school and adults in our in-house Educating and Training Program, we serve the immediate needs of resettled refugees. Our goal is to empower recently arrived refugees by providing them with the necessary tools and information to successfully transition into their new communities. The U.S. government places refugees in 49 states by working with none private non-profit national agencies, and Dorcas International is an affiliate partner of one of these official agencies.

RIEOC has been an integral part of the Community College of Rhode Island (CCRI) assisting individuals with applying for financial aid (FAFSA) and completing college admissions applications. The EOC office also provides an array of other services: career counseling, GED and English as a Second Language classes referrals, assistance with foreign education evaluations, financial literacy and general educational information dissemination. The RIEOC office has as a goal providing support and motivation to students to assist them in meeting their academic potential.

Literacy Volunteers of Kent County: An affiliate of Literacy Volunteers of America Trains and provides individual tutors for adults who are unable to read well enough to function in society, and foreign-speaking adults who wish to learn to speak and read the English language.

Immigration Services: family petitions, religious visa petitions, adjustment of status, green card renewals, naturalization, work permit renewals, TPS, DACA, and consultations. Accredited Representation: staff is accredited to represent individuals and families before the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. The Roman Catholic Diocese of Providence Catholic Social Services if RI is a member agency of the Catholic Legal Immigration Network, Inc.

Services: Provides educational and training information for post secondary education, financial aid and admissions information, application assistance in plus career counseling and assessment, referral to other social services and advocacy. EOC counselors are available at sites throughout Rhode Island. Income Source: U.S. Department of Education

Assists low-income residents through individual advocacy, research and community organization approaches to meeting basic human needs. Provides emergency fuel and energy assistance during winter months (November - April). Rental and prescription assistance when funds are available. **Qualifications:** Rent: Must have a five-day eviction notice or be attempting to move out of a shelter. Utility: (gas & electric) Must have a termination notice or be attempting to restore services. Heating: Must have made use of /be ineligible for all state, federal, and other private heating assistance funds. Funds are made available through the Bishop�s "Keep the Heat On" Fund. (www.heatri.com) Prescription Funds: Must be ineligible for health coverage or waiting for health coverage to begin. Income Source: Catholic Charity Fund Appeal, donations, grants

Higher Ground International is a forward thinking and culturally grounded inter-generational social service NGO that advocates and provides programs for West African Immigrants, Refugees and Marginalized Communities in Rhode Island and Rural Villages in Liberia, West Africa. Located on the South side of Providence, Rhode Island, HGI's vibrant and welcoming RUKIYA CENTER provides members of the West African Immigrants and Refugees community with elder services (Sweetie Care, African Elders Enrichment Program), Soft skills pre-employment and workforce development, literacy classes for women, basic computer and design classes, therapeutic arts, cultural enrichment, advocacy, case management, immigration & citizenship classesand other wraparound services for youth and families. HGI’s for-profit arm, Broken Pieces International, engages adults, at-risk youth and other under-served populations in the design and manufacture of clothing and accessories that reflect the character and community of both HGI and the West African diaspora. This provides them with vital job training and economic opportunities, and the revenue generated supports HGI’s work in Liberia. This innovative model fosters important connections to the culture and history of the mother country for Liberians living abroad, and reinforces HGI’s mission to uplift communities through empowerment and self-sustainability.

Works to lead and influence change that improves the quality of life for Latinos in Rhode Island. CHisPA works with community groups, educational institutions, federal, state and local government units, foundations and corporations to improve opportunities for Latinos and other minority groups. Services and activities include Information and Referral, an alternative school for high risk youth, community education, leadership development and other capacity-building programs. Technical assistance to emerging local groups and leadership in the areas of health access and education. Income Source: Membership fees; fund raising activities, grants.

Project Learn Adult & Family Literacy Program provides access to services and supports for adult learners to help them achieve their educational and workplace goals. Services for individuals age 16 and up include: ESL Classes, Basic Skills, Pre-GED and GED Classes and NEDP Classes.

Free, confidential, one-to-one literacy tutoring in reading, writing and English to East Bay adults. We teach basic literacy skills, GED skills, and ESL (English as a Second Language) skills. Volunteers test and tutor students, serve on our board, maintain our mailing lists, man our computer lab and other tasks.

The Institute for Labor Studies & Research sponsors workplace based adult literacy instruction in English as a Second Language (ESL).

Offers classes to students, 16+, in computer, beginning reading, adult basic education, English as a Second Language (ESL), transition to college, drop-out prevention. High school equivalency testing, six times per year, by appointment, at the GED testing center. Income Source: Rhode Island Department of Education; State and federal grants; fee for service, foundation grants, donations.

Provides training to volunteers to tutor adults with limited English skills that prevent them from functioning effectively in their homes, workplaces, communities, or as citizens of the United States. Tutoring is free of charge, confidential, and typically done on a one-to-one basis.
