The Roman Catholic Diocese of Providence has been collaborating with the USCCB/MRS for nearly 30 years in their humanitarian mission of the resettlement of refugees in the United States. This program is appropriate for anyone in need of immigration services and refugee resettlement casework.

Dorcas International is currently the only agency in Rhode Island that is authorized by the U.S. Department of State to resettle refugees arriving to the U.S.
From airport pick-up to securing housing, providing cultural orientation and intensive case management, health screenings, and enrolling children in school and adults in our in-house Educating and Training Program, we serve the immediate needs of resettled refugees. Our goal is to empower recently arrived refugees by providing them with the necessary tools and information to successfully transition into their new communities. The U.S. government places refugees in 49 states by working with none private non-profit national agencies, and Dorcas International is an affiliate partner of one of these official agencies.

English as a Second Language | Center For Southeast Asians
CSEA offers beginner, intermediate and advanced ESL Classes to help learners of all backgrounds become proficient in the English language. Initially, students are assessed to gauge their English communication and comprehension skills. Students are then placed in the appropriate level ESL class. Our classes run in trimesters, (4) times a week during the evening hours. ESL classes are offered year round.

English as a Second Language Classes: currently there are two English as a Second Language (ESL) offered classes at Blessed Sacrament Church 239 Regent Avenue, Providence, R.I. The class times and schedules vary depending on the class, some are held during the day and others in the evenings.
The Immigration and Refugee Services also assist many refugee clients who have children. Their children are enrolled in school but need extra help reading, writing and speaking English in order to keep up with their school work. Refugee student tutors set up a schedule with the parents of the student to tutor the child or children twice a week after school for an hour or two each session at the student’s home.

Technical assistance to emerging local groups and leadership in the areas of health access and education.
