A support group for adults whose loved ones have died by suicide. The group is comprised of spouses, siblings, and parents who have suffered this particular loss. Meetings are on Wednesdays, in eight week blocks, from 6:00PM - 7:30PM.

Friends Way provides free peer based support groups, under the direct supervision of mental health professionals, for children and teens who are mourning the death of a loved one, usually a parent or sibling. Community Care Alliance strives to empower people experiencing economic insecurity, mental illness and addiction, housing issues, and trauma-related concerns. They provide clinical and support services for individuals and families with long-term needs associated with mental illness and substance abuse. Their goal is to help people live as independently and as fully integrated within the community as possible These might include basic needs assistance to address emergencies— counseling, treatment, support services and residential programs for individuals and families impacted by serious mental illness and addiction— emergency and supportive housing to prevent homelessness and promote stabilization— alternative education and services for families with young children and adolescents— and employment, financial literacy and vocational training to improve self-sufficiency.

Hospice care is provided to patients who have advanced diseases that are considered incurable. Hospice care is about living each day to its fullest and helps to make a patient’s last months and days as comfortable and fulfilling as possible…making every moment count. Care is provided in the familiar surroundings of home or home-like setting. Care can also be provided in a long-term care setting or a hospital. The Hospice team focuses on patients’ and their loved ones’ physical, emotional and spiritual comfort. The goal is for the patient and family to spend their remaining days with comfort and dignity. Hospice team visits regularly and is available to answer questions and provide support. The team helps prepare family and friends for the loss of a loved one, and help them deal with their grief through bereavement support groups.

Grief and bereavement support groups are held at various times and locations throughout the year to support individuals and families who have lost a loved one. Coming together with others to share similar feelings and thoughts is beneficial to the grieving process. The support groups are a 6-session series led by the hospice chaplain, who teaches healing and coping strategies. Other programs offered for families and friends who have lost a loved one include: Circle of Love and Light held in the first week of December. Annual Interfaith Service, held each spring.

For those who have experienced the recent death of a loved one, Visiting Nurse Home & Hospice provides several Bereavement Support Groups throughout the year. These groups address a variety of topics designed to help, heal and support those who have lost a loved one. These groups are open to the public and free of charge.

The Tomorrow Fund sponsors a bereavement aftercare program that is facilitated by Clinical Social Workers and includes a monthly support group for bereaved parents.

Services: Self-help organization for parents who lost a baby through miscarriage, selective termination, stillbirth, neonatal death, sudden infant death, or accidental death, and who are now in or considering a subsequent pregnancy.

Programs that provide a full range of supportive services for terminally ill individuals who are in the final stages of their illnesses and for their families. Services may include medical care, pain and symptom management, home nurse visitation, case management, emotional and spiritual support, and bereavement services for the patient and members of the family. Hospice care may be provided at home, in a freestanding hospice facility, a hospice unit of a hospital or in long-term care facilities such as nursing homes. In order to qualify for Medicaid or Medicare reimbursement, an individual must have a life threatening illness and must be certified by their physician to have entered the last six months of life.

Offers open-ended groups for children ages 3-19 and their families after the death of a loved one. The groups meet on alternating weekdays. There is no fee charged for participation in our programs.

A free, annual 2-day bereavement day camp run by Home and Hospice Care of Rhode Island to provide an appropriate emotional outlet for Rhode Island children 5 to 17 years-old who have experienced the death of a loved one.

Self-help support group for anyone who has experienced the loss of a child.
