Domestic Violence is one of the leading causes of homelessness for women. As an affiliate member of the Rhode Island Coalition Against Domestic Violence, we provide integrated services to address the unique needs of domestic violence survivors, as we work with them to break the cycle of violence and find secure, stable housing. Through the Domestic Violence Program we offer comprehensive trauma-informed services for domestic violence survivors, including a 24-hour crisis hotline, emergency shelter, rapid re-housing, advocacy, support groups, and children's enrichment programs. The Domestic Violence Program is primarily an emergency shelter program with a focus on safety and housing. The shelter provides safety for 26 domestic violence survivors and their children in a confidential location separate from other Crossroads properties. Clients have access to Crossroads Rhode Island’s range of services, including basic needs assistance, education, employment services and intensive case management, while they work to find a secure and stable home.

**Non-profit long-term care advocacy agency, NOT a nursing home.** Works to improve the quality of life and health care for those receiving long term care services (nursing homes, assisted living residences, home health care and hospice services). Its role is to monitor long term care and address issues of abuse, neglect and financial exploitation. The staff is also involved in resident and family councils and represents residents in court. Along with a Volunteer Ombudsman Program (VOP), the Alliance provides educational programs to the general public, health care providers and long term care consumers. Building Bridges, an inter-generational Program, brings together school children and nursing home residents to foster sensitivity and understanding between generations. The Alliance works with individuals receiving long term care services to improve their environment while maintaining respect, personal dignity, and human choice.

Court Advocacy Court can be a confusing and frustrating experience for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. The Elizabeth Buffum Chace Center has an office on the third floor of the Kent County Court House to assist victims of domestic violence and sexual assault with filing for Temporary Restraining Orders in the District or Family Court. The Court where you file will vary based on where you reside and your relationship to the person you are filing against. If you are coming in to file for a Protective Order you should make every effort to arrive by 2:30 PM so that you will have adequate time to fill out all of the paper work before Judges are off the bench. To make sure you should be filing in Kent County, please call the Court Office at (401) 822-6680. The Court Office is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 am-1:00 pm, the office is closed for lunch from 1:00-2:00 pm, and then reopens from 2:00-4:00 pm. Works to lead and influence change that improves the quality of life for Latinos in Rhode Island. CHisPA works with community groups, educational institutions, federal, state and local government units, foundations and corporations to improve opportunities for Latinos and other minority groups. Services and activities include Information and Referral, an alternative school for high risk youth, community education, leadership development and other capacity-building programs. The Homeless Legal Clinic (HLC) was established in the Spring of 1990 in an effort to address the legal needs of homeless people in Rhode Island. The HLC relies on volunteers to provide legal services to the homeless without charge. The objective of the HLC is to serve in an outreach capacity by seeking out homeless and at risk clients at RI shelters. The HLC can provide direct legal services to those who cannot afford an attorney or may be unable to travel to a legal assistance office, are unaware such services exist or may be apprehensive about visiting a lawyer's office. The services now are being held at Harrington Hall and Crossroads only. The clinics are staffed by Attorney, Phillip Weistein and Attorney Dena Paolino, volunteer law students, and shelter liaisons.

DEA Protective Services Unit is responsible for investigating complaints of elderly abuse of Rhode Islanders 60 and older by a family member, caregiver or person with duty of care.. Abuse may include physical, emotional, sexual, financial exploitation, or abandonment. The DEA Protective Services Unit develops a care plan to prevent additional abuse and address the elder’s social service needs. Self-Neglect occurs when a person is no longer able to care for himself/herself. Reports of self-neglect are also made to the DEA Protective Services Unit. The senior’s needs are assessed and necessary services are 0ffered.
