The group researches and publishes comprehensive town-by-town statistics on the well-being of County children, convenes monthly workshops for doctors and mental health professionals who care for children with behavioral health problems and developmental disabilities, promotes emotional literacy among 2nd graders through an annual bookmark design contest, organizes a holiday gift drive for teens with Casey's Grill & Bar in Wakefield and offers a free Behavioral Health directory and other resources on a regularly-updated website.

OSCIL assist people with disabilities in locating available services and products such as affordable, accessible housing, transportation options, adaptive equipment, support services, and more. OSCIL’s Information and Referral program provides consumers and their families, service providers, and the general public with information on a wide array of community resources and disability services. Information can be obtained via phone, e-mail, fax or in person. OSCIL’s Signs of Independence quarterly newsletter provides information on disability issues to consumers and service providers. As a designated agency for “The Point”, OSCIL Information and Referral Coordinators provide up-to-date information on a vast array of agency and community services. The purpose of this is to bring solutions to the problems faced by individuals with disabilities.

Individuals who experience barriers in the community, i.e. inaccessible restaurants, public events, schools, etc. are encouraged to call OSCIL for information and assistance. Part of OSCIL’s mission is to bring information to the community to help address barriers to independent living. This includes presentations on: -Assistive technology demonstrations -Barriers to effective communication -How Center services can help your independent living goals -Understanding nursing home transition -Utilizing telecommunication devices for the Deaf -How home modifications can increase access in a home -Young adult independent living skills training -Effective public testimony
