Animal Control and Shelter

The Cabrini Fund provides scholarships to help working families with the cost of licensed child care. Established in 2006, this program is named in honor of Saint Frances Xavier Cabrini, 1850-1917. Cabrini Scholarships pay part of the cost (up to $100/month) of licensed child care for working families with children twelve years of age or younger. Payments are made directly to the child care provider. Providers must be licensed/certified by the State of Rhode Island and may be Child Care Centers, Home Based Providers or Before/After School programs.

Services: Provides educational and training information for post secondary education, financial aid and admissions information, application assistance in plus career counseling and assessment, referral to other social services and advocacy. EOC counselors are available at sites throughout Rhode Island. Income Source: U.S. Department of Education

Rhode Island Regional Adult Learning (RIRAL) is a private nonprofit adult education agency that was established in 1979 and designated by the Rhode Island Department of Education as a regional learning center. The mission is to assist adults in the process of reaching their academic, occupational, or personal goals through education, counseling, and training.

Charlesgate is a subsidized housing complex offering independent living, assisted living and skilled nursing care opportunities, 62+, handicapped or disabled.

Comprehensive physical therapy intervention to address patients who possess a variety of orthopedic and neurologic concerns. Each patient is evaluated by a licensed, registered physical therapist. A treatment plan is created based upon the findings of that evaluation, and the functional demands of their job, and implemented by professional staff.

CHILD, Inc. is a private non-profit agency providing comprehensive child development and family support services to low and moderate income families residing in Kent County, Rhode Island.

Services: A full-service healthcare network, including a 214-bed, acute-care hospital, 19-bed Transitional Care Unit, and an 18-bed inpatient psychiatric program at the Woonsocket Unit. WARM provides five separate, individual rooms of long-term transitional housing. This program, known as WARM-Up, occupies the same building – but not the same floor – as the shelter. Participants in this program may stay up to two years. WARM Supportive Homes provides permanent housing to six disabled individuals and two families with disabled adult members. We provide a safe, supportive environment, and thorough case management.

Patient travel resources for help with free medical air transportation. If a patient travel distance is 1000 miles or less, the services of a volunteer pilot organization flying for public benefit will be the referral. These organizations provide no-cost private or corporate aircraft travel for the patient and accompanying family member(s). Often a patient is flown to treatment location one day and then brought back home the next day to a week or two later.

One of the key services OSCIL provides is advocacy both for individuals and within the community as a whole. Advocacy is central to a Center for Independent Living’s mission. CILs offers both individual and systems advocacy. Individual advocacy is assisting an individual with a disability to protect his or her rights or to fight for needed resources. Through systems advocacy, we advance civil rights and equal access for all persons with disabilities on the local, state and federal levels. SYSTEMS ADVOCACY Our Independent Living Coordinators keep up-to-date on programs and legislation which may affect people with disabilities. Consumers are encouraged to contact their community leaders and legislators to inform them of their views on various programs and legislative issues. INDIVIDUAL ADVOCACY We work with people with disabilities to teach valuable self-advocacy skills, including: Learning the rights that they have already and making effective use of those rights. Learning how to effectively communicate their needs to both maintain the rights they already have and to make advancement in expanding the rights of persons with disabilities. OSCIL staff will also work with consumers to advocate for services to meet individual needs, including helping to understand the function and processes (necessary criteria, application process, deadlines, etc.) for Social Security, Vocational Rehabilitation, Medicare/Medicaid, and other service agencies.
