LeadSafe Homes Program was developed to help eliminate the dangers of lead in the property. Funds are available to properties built before 1978, properties with pregnant women and children under the age of six, and home-based daycares or foster homes that may contain lead paint. There are no out of pocket expenses or monthly payments. Funds are grants/loans and loans are forgiven after 5 years for owner-occupied properties and 10 years for rental properties.
Improvements may include new windows and doors, interior and exterior painting and lead safe yards and play areas.

Rhode Island Relay Service is a statewide service that connects standard (voice) telephone users with deaf, hard-of-hearing, deaf-blind, speech-disabled, or late-deafened people who use text telephones (TTYs) or voice carry-over (VCO) phones.
This service allows TTY or VCO users to communicate with standard telephone users through specially trained relay operators. Calls can be made to anywhere in the world, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year with no restrictions on the number, length, or type of calls.
All calls are strictly confidential and no records of any conversations are maintained. Anyone wishing to use Rhode Island Relay simply dials the relay number to connect with a relay operator. The relay operator will dial the requested number and relay the conversation between the two callers.

Hospital charity care requirements cover those essential services necessary to diagnose, correct, or cure a medical condition that endangers life, causes pain and suffering, results in illness or infirmity, or causes a physical deformity or malfunction. Both inpatient and outpatient services are included.
To receive full charity care, patients annual family income must be up to and including 200% of the Federal Poverty Level. For partial charity care, patients annual family income must be between 200% and 300% of the Federal Poverty Level may receive assistance based on a sliding scale. In addition to income, hospitals have the option to consider other assets. Also must be denied from Medicaid first depending on income. Patients who get accepted will receive financial aid for a year.

Catherine T. Murray Memorial Scholarship
The Catherine T. Murray Memorial Scholarship supports the philosophy and spirit of OSCIL by facilitating access to education for persons having disability.
PLEASE NOTE, ONLY RHODE ISLAND RESIDENTS ARE ELIGIBLE TO APPLY FOR THIS SCHOLARSHIP.
The Catherine T. Murray Memorial Scholarship was established in 1995 by Catherine Murray, a long-time educator and also a board member and valued volunteer at the Ocean State Center for Independent Living. It was her wish to support the philosophy and spirit of OSCIL through a scholarship that gives people with disability access to higher education.
Grants of $1000+ are awarded to help students with a disability to continue their education past high school. Scholarship funds can be used for educational expenses such as tuition or the purchase of textbooks. They may also be used to obtain assistive/adaptive equipment or devices that aid the student in meeting their educational goals.
To qualify for this scholarship applicants must:
-have a significant disability
-be a Rhode Island resident (Your home address MUST be in RI)
-plan to attend a college, technical school, or a trade/vocational program in the upcoming academic year
Preference is based on career goals, merit, and economic need.

The philosophy of our program is to provide social, habilitation and employment services to deaf people with diverse disabilities and others with unique communication needs in an independence and empowerment-based model that facilitates living, learning and working successfully as integrated members of the community.
Services are concentrated in four areas: Day Program, Residential Program, Employment Services (training, internship, job coaching, paid employment) and Community Outreach/Involvement, which includes attending cultural and civic events, volunteering with neighborhood clean-up and enhancement projects, and working with staff at Fairs and Conventions to promote Corliss services and activities to parents, schools, businesses and public agencies.

Our Adult Basic Education program prepare students to pass the GED (and other high school equivalency programs) and proceed to college-level work and persist in their post-secondary education goals. Students receive developmental education courses in reading and math, as well as courses in writing and computer literacy, in order to first earn a high school equivalency diploma and then be prepared to enter college, a trade school, or a certificate program. The program also includes extensive academic and support services for students to help them reach their educational goals.
