The Animal Control Officers work out of the South Kingstown Public Safety Building. Animal Control's mission is to enforce all Town and State Laws pertaining to domestic animals and to ensure that all animals in the Town of South Kingstown are treated humanely. Public/Humane education in regard to the proper treatment and care of animals plays a large role in helping to ensure animals are properly cared for. Animal Control Officers are also first responders to calls concerning possible rabid animals. Animal Control handles 1,400-1,500 complaints a year.

Fort Wetherill State Park, situated upon 100 foot high granite cliffs across the water from Fort Adams State Park, is a former coastal defense battery and training camp. Known for its spectacular view of Newport Harbor and the East Passage of Narragansett Bay, Fort Wetherill has been a popular sight for viewing the numerous Tall Ship Events and America’s Cup Races. The area is also a major attraction for scuba diving, with Diving Clubs from New York State, Connecticut, Massachusetts and Rhode Island using the facilities at the boat ramp year round. Additionally, the park offers family and group picnicking, boating, fishing, hiking and exploring on the park’s 61.5 acres of property.

Burrillville Historical & Preservation Society mission is to preserve and protect Burrillville’s history. They hold monthly meetings with educational programs, a yearly open house/yard sale/book sale/bake sale and other special events during the year. If you are interested in Burrillville’s past, the old mills, historical cemeteries, genealogy, research, archives, fundraising or helping out at events, there are many opportunities for involvement.

A transitional housing program for male veterans. Vets may stay for up to 24 months and receive food and clothing, case management, education, and counseling services. Counseling services include mental health including PTSD and substance abuse/ gambling counseling/intervention, legal services, resume building and budget counseling and more. The goal of the program is to help homeless Veterans achieve residential stability, increase their skill levels or income, and obtain greater self-determination.

MLK Jr. Community Center is a nonprofit service provider for at-risk individuals, families and seniors. Hunger Services On Site Food Pantry - providing non-perishable food, frozen meat, fresh produce, bread and household and personal care items to our Newport County residents. All clients are eligible to shop once per month. Mobile Food Pantry - visits neighborhoods across Newport County each month on a rotating schedule. Healthy Families America Works with expectant Mothers and Families of newborn. Helps identify a family's needs, provides emotional support and links the family to additional supportive resources in the community. Pregnant mothers and families with children 3 months or younger are eligible for this program.

Whether you are an older adult or under age 55, the Department will confidentially discuss your individual circumstances and either assist directly or refer you to other providers in the community.
