The Diocese of Providence’s Secretariat for Catholic Charities & Social Ministry develops, implements and supports ministries and services that reach thousands of Rhode Islanders each year. Rooted in the social teaching of the Roman Catholic Church, this secretariat focuses on the dignity of each human being, serving others and dispensing charity while educating and advocating for justice. Through this office, support is provided to more than 140 parishes in the diocese by helping parishioners meet their basic and social service needs. In every service provided, this ministry aims to reflect the compassion of Jesus Christ through sensitivity to the ever-changing ethnic, cultural and economic diversity of communities within the diocese. The Secretariat for Catholic Charities & Social Ministry brings the message of Christ’s love to the people of Rhode Island in tangible ways. These offices provide resources to communities in the areas of family, the sanctity of life, immigration, emergency assistance and so much more. This secretariat seeks to meet the physical and spiritual needs of parishioners and neighbors while always addressing injustice and advocating for legislative change at the local and national levels.

Walk-in resource center, accepts drop-in visits from any formerly incarcerated person. We maintain an up-to-date and comprehensive file of resources in major life areas such as housing, employment, education, medical, mental health, substance abuse, and transportation. Clients can use our telephone or computer lab to communicate with employers, family members, and probation or parole officers. Our resource center has a full schedule of programming, ranging from job readiness to financial literacy to support groups. We can also serve as a temporary address. A civic-minded organization that manages the Aspray boat house in Warwick, and operates many community events in and around Pawtucket Village, including the famous Gaspee Days Parade each June.

The Workers' Compensation Division monitors the workers' compensation system, ensuring that appropriate documents are filed to protect injured workers and employers, that claims are paid correctly, that all required employers have insurance coverage, and that insurance carriers report policy information to the Division. The Division also compiles information about injuries and costs, provides educational services, and investigates fraud. The Robert F. Arrigan Rehabilitation Center provides physical and vocational rehabilitation services for injured workers.

The Rhode Island Donation Exchange Program is a nonprofit social enterprise managed by Comprehensive Community Action Program (CCAP) that solicits donations of quality furniture from individuals and businesses in the community. To help us further our mission, these items are passed along and sold to the public. Though our RI Donation Exchange Discount Program, qualified individuals and families who have been referred to our program by human service organizations receive an additional discount on all items. No item is priced over $350. Pick-Up Services: Rhode Island Donation Exchange offers FREE curbside pick-up for qualifying donations. Please email photos of the furniture to [email protected]. In addition, we offer ReStore Priority Pick-up through ReSupply Service (Fee-Based). This service allows donors to schedule a speedy priority pick-up online within 48 hours. There is a charge for this service. By taking advantage of ReSupply’s services, you can get items out of your home faster, with fewer restrictions. Delivery Services: Rhode Island Donation Exchange offers Curbside Delivery for a $50 fee. You will need to provide help to assist with loading and unloading.

Rhode Island Committee on Occupational Safety and Health is a resource center for occupational and environmental health and safety. Their primary focus is to prevent occupational and environmental disease and injury. RICOSH pursues this goal in three broad areas: training, technical assistance, and advocacy.

Programs that offer opportunities for non-English-speaking and limited-English-speaking adults to learn listening, speaking, reading and writing skills with an emphasis on developing the level of communication competence that is essential for adults who are living in a setting in which English is the primary language. Also included are programs that provide English language instruction for younger people.

The Counseling Center at JCS in Providence offers hope and help to anyone facing life challenges. We provide counseling for children, adolescents, adults, couples and families. If you are struggling with emotional issues, the Counseling Center can provide support and guidance to help you achieve your goals. The JCS Counseling Center provides confidential, high-quality counseling services for clients of all ages and backgrounds. All of our counselors are licensed, master’s-level clinicians with years of training and experience. Respected in the field, they serve as mentors for other professionals. Their expertise includes: Individual therapy for clients of all counseling needs and all ages, including older adults. Child, adolescent, and family therapy to help children achieve greater emotional health and to address parenting concerns.

The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People is a non-profit organization established with the objective of insuring the political, educational, social, and economic equality of minority groups.

The Center is a private, non-profit community focal point for residents of Newport County and surrounding communities where older persons can come together for services and/or activities which enhance their dignity, reflect their experience and skills, support their independence, encourage their involvement in and with the Center and the community, and respond to their diverse needs and interests. The Senior and Disabilities Services at United Way, also known as the POINT, is a statewide resource network that provides information, referrals, and long-term care options to seniors, adults with disabilities, and their caregivers. Get valuable information and assistance about:

• State Health Insurance Program (SHIP)
• Public assistance programs such as Medicare, Medicaid, SNAP, LIHEAP, and others.
• Information regarding other valuable resources in the community such as healthcare fraud and home care

MAE accepts personal donations of gently used items such as clothing and shoes and make them available at their weekly food service locations.

BHDDH is recognized at the federal and state levels as the mental health authority, the single state agency for substance use disorder treatment and prevention and the state opioid treatment authority. The program objectives of the Mental Health Block Grant (MHBG) are to support the grantees in carrying out plans for providing comprehensive community mental health services.
